There is no quick fix, it wouldn't be very secure if there was.

There are 999 possible combinations remaining and if you start at 001 you'd be extremely unlucky to need to go through all of them. Try 999 straight away though, sometimes the tumblers can appear to be set to 000 when they're actually at 999.

SOURCE: I need to put a new combination on my briefcase.

When you open the briefcase on the inside to the right of where the combination is in the center there is a metal lever sticking out.
Push this lever to the left and hold it there while you change the combination numbers.

When you let the lever spring back to it's normal position, the numbers set will be the new combination.

Steal a different briefcase. Otherwise, especially since you did n't specify the brand or type of briefcase, you'll need to break the locks to get into it.

Set combination lock
Step 1:
Locate the reset button, usually placed to the side of the combination dials.

Step 2:
Press the reset button and hold it while rotating the number dials to the desired combination.

Step 3:
Release the reset button after you set the numbers to the new combination.

Is there an owner's manual available on line for a Stebco Attache Case Model P-16? I need to know how to set the combinations on the dial lock system.
I couldn't find the manual for your particular briefcase, but please read the instructions on the attached link. It should help you since most briefcase combination locks work the same. Hope it helps.

This is how you generally change the combo on a briefcase

1. With the briefcase closed put int the combination
2. Slide the bottons in the opposite direction than you usally do to open it.
3. Now set your new password.
4. Slide the buttons back into place.
5. If it dosent work the first time try it a few times
6. If it fails try reposting with more specific model information about your briefcase

How do you set your own combination for the locks on the briefcase,there were no instructions with the case
  • 1 Turn the lock to the correct combination and open the briefcase.
  • 2 Look at the lock. There should be one or two pins that you can slide with your fingers. If there is one, simply push it in. If there are two, push them together. It may be the same button you use to open the case.
  • 3 Change the lock to an easy-to-remember value, such as 000 or 123, to test the lock. Release the pin.
  • 4 Close the briefcase and turn the lock to another value. It should not open. Now turn it to the test combination. It should open right up.
  • 5 Repeat Steps 2 and 3, but this time choose a number that will be easy for you to remember, but hard for someone else to guess. Write down your new combination and keep it somewhere safe.
