I had a 700w laying around with a good screen. My daily 700w treo had a crack on its lcd. I wanted to swap out screens. I did so, and put it back together. Now I only get a black screen when the phone powers up. I replace the replacement screen with the original cracked screen and even that one now gives me a black screen. Have I missed something??
Yes, most likely you have missed the proper technique of installing the ribbon strips correctly into the connection block.
I did the same thing and it took me three tries to get it right... I stumbled on this by playing with other ribbon strips on the phone that I could access better and found that there is some sort of “step” or “threshold” inside of the connection block that makes you feel like to have "seated" the ribbon strip at the bottom of the block when in fact you have to push harder to actually push the ribbon into the block fully and make contact with the connectors, and then snap the locking bar down.
It's an easy mistake to make since the connection block and ribbon strip for the screen are hard to get hold of with your fingers... try using some tweezers or small long nose pliers to hold the ribbon and seat it fully.
Now I still am trying to figure out how to unlock and install the touch screen ribbon into the connection block… it’s really small and does not seem to what to unlock to allow for a full installation of the really small ribbon strip and lock it in, so I used a piece of duct tape to hold it in place and it works fine… not my perfect fix on this one, but my ph works…

Wow! I searched all over the net to find a fix for this exact problem. My gut told me it had to be something as simple as your fix -- and it was. I had nearly given up and was going thru my bag of old phones, grudgingly choosing which dinosaur I would have to reactivate as a replacement. thanks a million.
