Okay, I purchased a TCL L40FHDF11TA 40-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV 2 1/2 years ago (2 year warranty) and it worked fine until I cancelled my cable subscription and hooked my set up to a new Mohu Leaf HD antenna following the Mohu directions. After doing the initial channel setup/scan, I was happy to see I was picking up quite a number of HD channels off-air, all with a crisp, vibrant picture. But after 4 or five hours of viewing, the picture in all channels started flickering and became progressively darker--like it was dying a slow death. By the next day the screen is nearly constantly with the exceptions of brief flashes of partial images on the right side of the screen. The audio is still working flawlessly. ,,,,I have disconnected the antenna, disconnected the TV power source and held the power button down for a minute in an attempt to reboot the set--but the image remains the same. Even without the antenna attached the screen is black, not blue, so I can't access the menu, except by guessing with the remote--all the imput settings seem correct and when I hook up my DVD player I get the same result--dark screen, slight flashes of images, great audio. MY QUESTION: Did the antenna fry my TV's mother board...and can my set be repaired for less than the $360.00--$400.00 or so it would cost to replace it. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. ST

If you can open the back cover then tried to resoldered the main board which may have loose contact using a soldering iron. if still with dim picture then you may check the back light.

Testimonial: "Thank you so much!!! Soldering is a bit beyond my scope, but I have a guest coming next week who is moretool-friendly and electronically gifted, I'll ask him to try this and then post the results. Any and all other suggestions are still very welcome"

SOURCE: Aspect ratio problems on Samsung LN-S2651D Flat Panel TV

The aspect ratio (zoom) button on the cable remote had been changed. On Brighthouse the # button toggles through the zoom settings. It's not a tv issue, it's a cable fix.

SOURCE: SHARP aquos 1080p HDTV: VCR image flickers when playback

I have the same model TV and the following worked for me. I am using A/V cables attached to Input1 on back of the TV.

On your Sharp TV remote control:
1. Select the Input (1-5) that is attached to your VCR.
2. Go to the menu and select options.
3. Change your color system to NTSC.

This should stop your picture frome flashing on and off.

You still may have a issue with the screen colors. I don't know of a way to address this, other than to make the picture monochrome.

Hope this helps.

I own a 40 inches philipps model 40PFL7505D, there is a blackout after about 2 hours of listening. The sound is also out at the same time. That's happening like 3 times a minute and the tv is still working...

If you are sure the set is getting a good sound signal the ask Philips at: http://www.support.philips.com/support/contact/contact_page.jsp?userCountry=ca&userLanguage=en A lot of HD cable systems have breaks in the sound transmission. It drives me nuts.

I have a 40" TCL TV with one black vertical line on the screen.

Your set has some board that performs the function to connect the screen to the video-generation function of the TV. Either your LED/LCD screen is failing or the video function is failing. If the set is under warranty, contact the manufacturer using the information on the warranty statement. Try using a different video input (hdmi/composite/etc) for the TV and see if you get the same line on all inputs. If there is no separate board, the next step would be to try and replace the main video board. With the prices falling on lower resolution TV's, it would probably be cheaper to replace the TV than trying a repair, if it is out of warranty. 40" 1080p TV's can be had for less than $200 at some sales (e.g. Black Friday).

Did attatching HD Antenna fry my HDTV?

"the screen is nearly constantly with the exceptions of..." What does that mean?
If your antenna has a power supply it may have malfunctioned and fried your TV's tuner. Forty inch flat screens go for about $400 and up these days.
It could also be a coincidence, that the TV was expiring just when you hooked the antenna up.

When I installed my dads Samsung 40 lcd 120 hz. I had to turn it all off and after 5 mins I turned on the cable and then 5 minutes later I turned o the tv.

Or have you tried "searching" the tv for cable channel's?
