Computer wont start, no signs of life, power supply is good and green light turs off when plugging into computer

Dell Latitude d600: Power supply works fine, I double checked with another . the green light comes on when I Plug it into the wall but then turns off when I plug my laptop into the power supply. I believe it may be in the on/off switch and notice a pinhole like to open a DVD rom when power is off. The laptop will not show any signs of powering up.

Hi there
Sounds like a common problem
when you plug the power pack into the laptop its power light goes off because there is a fault. Most commonly this is connected with the plug or the socket into which it goes or the motherboard.
visually inspect the socket, if the central pin is loose thats your problem, if not then check the plug/jack bend the cable on it as these are prone to breaking. wiggle it around whilst checking the power button and status lights if none of that works then you need to strip the laptop and perform a continuity test on the first stage.
ie between socket and motherboard. please note for any sign of exposed cable and remember electricity hurts on contact be carefull. especially if you test motherboard for voltage.
ps the switch is pretty reliable and i would not poke anything in that hole just yet.

Laptop wont charge

Remove the battery and try again. If it solved the problem the battery is shorted and must be replaced. Look at the plug in the back of the laptop for the power. Is it lose? if it is lose you have a short from it touching contactd together and it must be replaced. If neither of these work try using a loner power supply to see if it is that. The D600 has lots of Power problems on of witch is the Motherboard itself. Hope this helps you out.

My computer will not charge

If the system runs on AC but doesn't charge the battery, then you most likely fix is replace the battery (THey have a life cycle of about 300 to 500 discharge/recharge cycles) If this is a new battery, you may need a motherboard

I have a dell laptop latitude d600 and it will not turn on. the power supply light is on and when u plug it into the computer it turns off and the computer will not turn on and the power supply light goes...

There are 2 possible points of failure here. The AC adapter or the Motherboard. If possible, try a different D-Series AC adapter from a known good system and see if there is any change. Also test your adapter on a known good Dell if possible. If the adapter is the fault, then replace it. If a known good adapter has the same issue, then the motherboard is at fault and needs replacement. Motherboard are about $100 on EBay

My latitude d600 will not start.

Is the connection on the Laptop loose? Most power connectors are soldered onto the motherboard and are notorious for becoming loose. If the connector is loose you it may be shorting out the adapter. I would have a professional look at it before plugging the adapter back into it. If you are shorting out the adapter it could present a fire hazard. Most laptop repair companies will resolder the connector for around a $100.

No power

It sounds like there is a short in the power supply. If the laptop is still under warranty, you'd be best off sending it in for repairs.
