Question about Black & Decker 750w Power Inverter

Connection to car battery

I have a 750 watt power inverter that connects directly to the car battery. Can I connect it and use it while the car is running so I can avoid draining the car battery?

The answer is yes...BUT make sure the polarity is correct and the inverter turned off when you make the connection

find the watts on each appliance. Usually on the back of then. Add all the watts together then buy a inverter that can put out more than what you need. Say all the watts come up to 2,000watts you will need an inverter that's 2,500watts minimum so you don't burn up the inverter.

I have a 3000 watt inverter and it has two sets of battery posts do I use both or just one? It will be put in a semi.
If one fulfills your requirements, use just one. You can also connect (2) 6v batteries to your inverter. Should you ever need to connect a second battery, be extremely careful you absolutely follow the correct connection configuration and make absolutely sure you make the actual connections in the correct order.

I have a 1250 watts inverter and i wanted to know if i can connect it to my 2003 ford explorer without connecting it straight to the battery
Let us look at the math. 1250 watts at 120 volts is w=va Watts equals volts times amps. Or in this case 1250 divided by 120 volts = 10.41 amps. But what is the 12 volt side capable of drawing. 1250 watts divided by 12 volts. 104.10 amps. This is more than what the average cigarette lighter or power port can provide. So, yes you need to connect directly to the battery, you can use a relay rated for 100 A in between the inverter and battery to control the power to the inverter. I would use a good #2 copper welding cable for the power leads. Now, if you are not planning on using the whole 1250 watts, then you can use a #4 welding cable (it is very flexible) for power leads.

My powerline 200/400 watt Inverter is flashing the red light and sounding the alarm. This happens with nothing plugged in or just about anything.
Low input voltage or current.
Bad input voltage sensor.
Test by connecting directly to battery (with jumpers or make an adapter). The wiring or connection to your power port (cigar lighter) may be bad.

If it works at the battery, it is the car wiring. If not, it will cost more than the 25 dollar price tag to have it repaired. Just replace it (try http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/web/search.do?keyword=inverter )

It sounds like the fuse that protects you cigarette lighter is blown.

After you have replaced the fuse, check the voltage again. 0.015vdc would not have powered anything that in manufactured to operate on 12vdc.

When powering anything over about 250W, I would suggest connecting directly to the battery to avoid overloading the lighter circuit.

When i hook up my 750 watt inverter to my truck do i need to install a isolator or inline fuse? or just connect the 4 gauge battery cables directly to the battery and the inverter?
Yes, inline fuse as close to the battery as possible. If 4 gauge wire were to ground out without fuse, would most likely start a fire or at least damage other existing harnesses (depending on routing) before a person could disconnect battery.

Power hook up
This type of inverter has large alligator clips on it because the amperage that comes through a cigarette lighter is insufficient and can result in blown fuses and overheating of the socket. Hook this one up directly to the battery without splicing a longer wire to it.

750 watt sounds alarm when powered up an alarm buzzer rings, and now power, manual says that there is a low voltage alarm. this is when the unit is powered right from the battery no engine running, when I start the engine on the truck I get one chirp on the inverter and I blow a fuse. not a fuse in the inverter but an inline 30 amp fuse in the power cables to the inverter.

The yellow light stays on and will not power any electronic devices. The fan will run for a couple seconds then turns off also. The battery is fully charged. Is there anything i can do?
