Charging lights turn red and green...But camcorder will not power on

Sounds like the battery is faulty, or is not charging properly. Can you remove the battery and try it on another (heavy load) device? At least check with a voltmeter and put a (say) torch/car bulb across the contacts

Make sure you use a good USB 2 port and make sure your computer stays turned ON during the charging or it will not charge. The red light should stay on on the front of the camcorder while charging and will go off when charging is complete.
Try a different USB port maybe also. or if using a USB extension make sure it is a powered extension, and if not, connect the camcorder directly into a USB instead of using an extension.
My extension has a light to show that it is a powered extension.

return it for a refund! i bought one, it did the same as yours. i returned it and bought the 2nd one. It did the same as the first one (and the same as yours.)

It is a piece of junk. Supposedly the previous Flips were good, unfortunately, I didn't have the previous models so my experiences only are bad.

digital zoom is different from optical zoom. when using digital zoom, you have to keep the camera very, very, very still. may even have to use a tripod.

didyou check that the batarry has enough power?

It could need a new battery.  The battery can't hold a charge in it anymore.

Plug unit into computer (USB), open LCD screen of unit, depress "video" button, when prompted on camera LCD, select "live."

i just got this camera today and i was having the same problem. i figured that i would just leave it while i was at work and see if it needed a full charge or something. when i got home, nothing. it would only power on when plugged in. after a little checking and swearing i found that i had put the battery in backwards. it will fit in backwards but will not charge it. the writing on the battery should be visible when it is in place. hope this helps.

there a short line to the carbon wire of the function switch.....unfold the wire to loose the fold....and clean the contact of the wire using a pencil eraser slowly
