Is the television staying on and going blank or is it completely turning off? I ask because a piece of electronic equipment that turns on, but then immediately shuts off normally is a clear indicator that there are some capacitors that need replacing. If this is the issue, take a look at the capacitors on the board (they look like cylinder batteries standing on end) and see if you notice any with bulging ends or leaking some fluid (it will look like battery acid). If you find this, then you've found your culprit and a $5 shopping spree at Radio Shack will be enough to fix your problem :)

OK, I did do some google-cheating on this one (all in the name of assisting you though, lol). From what I'm seeing in the searches, if your television is not completely shutting off (eg. picture goes black, but audio remains blissfully unaware of any problem), you can try a "kinetic" repair. This is also commonly known as "whacking the side of the TV", hehe.

In all seriousness, this is a real suggestion as one of the causes of this problem is a slightly loose connection somewhere which, as the TV heats up and parts expand/contract, becomes more pronounced. Hitting the TV may jar the connection back in place. While this won't fix your issue, it will, at the least, identify it for you, at which point we can move forward with trying to get the problem fixed up.

Another thing you can try is to jiggle the video cable on the back of the TV to see if this brings the pic back as well.

Let me know what you come up with!

Tv comes on only for a few seconds then shuts off

Something is getting heated up inside and might need servicing. I suggest not to keep using the TV as this might damage more parts.

Tv comes on then screen goes blank after a few seconds

Hello there,

If the screen goes blank after a few seconds that the phone is on. first check if the sound is still on, if it is still on, then it is the t-con board of the television that is faulty, but if the sound also goes off, then you need to check the lamp of the television if it is still okay.

Thank you for using fixya

Picture goes blank after a few seconds of turning on power

check if the back lamps are still on when you lose image, all you have to do is get close to the screen and make is totally black and if is not that means you have a back light working, but if the back light is gone you may have a defective panel.

talked to samsung TA about the same problem I had and the recommend to replace the power supply first to confirm a defective panel because a panel is quite expensive
