Planar pdp42bk - steady flashing green light / no video or audio

Hi--

I replaced the caps sometime ago ( worked perfect ), but suddenly i just get a steady flashing green light now ( not the green to red ). I hear the "screen noise" of it coming on, but nothing on screen. No input status floating on the screen. also, no audio coming out.

any suggestions?

thx--

    Hi--

Thx for the reply, but this does not help me. As stated, i already changed the caps sometime ago and the tv was working fine. Then poof! Now just the flashing light.

Can you specify which board? which caps? is it not easier to buy another board from ebay if its only one of the smaller boards?

and you definitely can say the flashing light is a power supply issue?

    thx

how do i reset it back to factory state? is there a jumper or switch on the boards somewhere?

already tried to leave it off of main power for awhile, no luck.

and already saw the post by votit, but was asking for more specifics on which components i needed to check, other than resolder everything. do i need to replace the caps i already replaced orginally?

i was not having this issue before replacing those caps and the tv worked great for 6+ mos after that repair.

    thx

Heat is the enemy of electronics, and these sets operate hot. You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down when it detects a problem. CApacitor failure in the power supply is very common. This model of TV has over 3,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Integrated circuits and transistors can go bad. This can cause other components to become defective, which can have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The only way to know for sure what is causing the problem, which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

if it helps rate the solution

Hi...

1.
Try to reset the TV back to factory state, this may resolve the your problem, also leave the TV off and disconnected from the mains for 30 mins to 1 hour the purpose of this is to drain the stored current in the memory IC. If this does not work you may have to have the IC board repaired again

2.
This is a power supply symptom trouble you must replaced all electrolytic capacitor there and check also the resistor for change value and resolder all component joints parts, for loose or cold solder.Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected . When the unit turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough. In audio section you must resolder parts joints for cold solder also.

Good luck !!!

Those electrolytic capacitor in power supply circuit board you need to replaced the C97, C19, and C16 Capacitors with 2.2 uF ones in power supply section..That capacitor you replaced before maybe faulty already.

Yes its better you just replaced again the capacitors you put it before maybe is faulty again .In power section parts easily stress causing it to malfunction again.

No power output or display.green standby light flashes.

Sounds like either a blown mainpower fuse or the thermal fuse for the power transformer. If the protect circuit was kicking in, the display would light up, but then turn off with a red blinking light. the green light with no display means the transformer is not getting power.

Tv turns off will turn on then off right away

the internal overload sensor is engaging to protect the system. The parts cost to replace the faulty board is about $70 But you need the skills to open the tv and change it I recommend you get a professional to do it More expensive of course but a lot safer.

Planar PDP42BK no picture

Check the 15v line that runs through all the boards, left, right and top.. If that has no power, then look on the ysus board (left one) there is a flyback reg (5pin) standard to-220 case surrouded by caps, it does dc to ac conversion, if you dont have the 15v output then the chip is bad. I just did 2 of these that had the same problem.
