When I turned on my receiver, in the display area it read "Protect" and does not turn on. What does this mean? and how do I fix it? There is nothing in the manual to even indicate that Protect is a display at all
Protect mean that the speaker wires are touching eachother or that one of your speakers are blown and it is shorting out the receiver.

Check the speaker's connections, I got them message when a speaker wire was unplugged and plugged back in while the unit was powered on

I seem to be getting popping sound when I turn on the receiver and then after it goes to protect mode, I turn it on and off and it usually fixes itself, but could pop a couple more times until turning it on and off works.
This just started happening to my receiver as well, and I unplugged all the speakers from the unit, and it still comes on and flashes "PROTECT"
i got protect on mine too how do we fix it?
my receiver keeps flashing protector. my receiver doesn't work. what do I have to do to re-set the receiver
I have the same problem! My receiver (Sony STR-DE675) is on "protect". I tried all recommendations such as unplug all the wiring, opened it and dust it off, tighten all screws, checked all the speaker wires and nothing worked. Hopefully someone has the solution?
