Brand new gas stove. When oven is turned on there is a heavily gas smell.

Our gas stove is brand new. We used the oven twice now and both times we used it the whole house smells like gas, you open the oven door and it smells heavily like gas. The second time we used it we heard a little puff in the oven. It was scary so we haven't used it yet. What could be wrong with the oven.

There have been reports of gas ranges which have been installed with no leveling legs. (due to various reasons, like a new floor installed, but the counter tops stayed in the same place, so the range surface would be higher than the counter top if the legs were installed) In some cases, this results in an insufficient amount of combustion air for the oven. To test this, put the range up on a set of 3/4 inch or so blocks and try the oven again. Let me know how that went. Thanks.

I smell something burning when the oven is on...not as "eggy" as gas but I have a pregnant wife and I'm scared to use this thing. Is it just a new oven smell?

I would have a service call made and have the service technician check for correct installation
Smells ( that cannot be attributed to burnt food, gas ) should be investigated as they are the early warning signs of a problem
at least you will have peace of mind and may be advised as to a product that can be used to remove the smell

Won't get hot, smells like gas

Most of these new fangled gas stove feature a silicone carbide ignitor to light the oven. Older stoves used a standing pilot light. As silicone carbide ignitor age a little they tend to get weak and fail to open the gas safety vave sufficiently enough for ignition. Take a look

I have a Whirlpool GS773LXSS gas range. You press bake, it clicks once and doesn't heat up at all. Press Broil, clicks twice and doesn't heat up.

Is the gas turned on to the stove? Is the pilot light lit?
Any special circumstances surrounding this incident? like this stove is new or old. Or you are new to gas stoves etc.

Gas stove When I turn on the oven, I smell gas,

This is more than likely the igniter to be sure you will need to do an amp draw on the igniter. To do this watch the video on troubleshooting a gas oven at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html

When I use my gas range it smells like lighter fluid. Only when it is on, when off the odor goes away. It is a dual stove with electric oven and gas top. It started with one burner and now all 5 of them...

I am having the same problem with our stove in our new house. We just moved in and everytime I turn a burner on it smells like charcoal lighter fluid. Anyone know what this is?

Gas smell, oven not heating up

You gas oven uses a glowbar to both regulate and ignite the gas entering the oven. If this glowbar is faulty, it might let some gas into the oven but it is not hot enough to ignite the gas. That is why you are smelling gas. I would suggest to start by replacing the glowbar (and if this is not the solution, simply return the part for a refund). The part you are looking for can be found online here: http://www.partselect.com/PartDetail.aspx?Inventory=470129&SourceCode=1

It is quite easy to replace. Simply remove the free-standing pan on the bottom of the oven, unscrew the existing glowbar, remove the back cover from the stove and trace the two wires that belong to the glowbar and unplug them. Thread the two wires from the new glowbar through the opening and reconnect to the plugs at the back of the stove. Screw in the new glowbar and test. Most oven ignition problems are caused by faulty glowbard. Good luck.
