Trying to boot from windows CD and not working

If its the full windows xp cd by booting it from the cd drive it will erase everything and ask if you want to upgrade or advanced install I think. Your correct in choosing the atapi cd-rom as 1st boot device. The cd should be in the drive on startup. IDE is the type of hard disk drive. I'm guessing the FDD stands for floppy disk drive which you might not have that many but you have that many bay windows available.

Put disk in, shut down computer, Start computer and it should give you the xp disk contents. Be aware of data loss though.

BIOS and Sony CD-RW CRX300E

Your Sony CD-RW is an ATAPI CD-ROM for the purpose of your BIOS. Without you specifying the motherboard brand and model, it is hard to tell you what your issue could be.

Nearly all PC motherboards made after 1995 will allow you to boot from the CD. Enter the BIOS setup screen by pressing, during POST, <DEL> or <CTR>-S (Gateway), <F1> or <F2> and look for boot sequence. Some MB's have a boot sequence key you can press to select the boot device for that boot instance only.

If you are trying to say that you have an ATAPI CD-ROM and the Sony CD-RW, then check your master/slave/cable select jumper settings on the device. Each IDE channel can have at most one master and one slave.

Re: lg tower xp install

Hi,
the boot device setup in the bios, if you set atapi-cd rom as first boot device. then hdd second. and fdd last.
it appears that you have a faulty connection from the IDE ( 40-80 wire cable ) that runs from the motherboard Primary/secondary slot. check the cable goes from motherboard to hard-drive and is connected firmly, also check the jumper blocks ( small white plastic block ) is set to master or slave on both devices ( cd-hard-drive ) if both on same cable set hard-drive to slave and CD rom to master. if they are both set as master or slave, they will conflict with each other.
if you need further help, please mail back.

Toshiba DVD ROM SD M1302 driver

If you are using Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, NT or XP, and have an ATAPI/IDE CD/DVD drive, there is no driver needed (see Toshiba statement I have posted below). Under no circumstances, if DVD is properly installed and functional, will you need ANY driver!

If your DVD drive is a SCSI drive, then it may need drivers specific to the SCSI card you have installed (see the specs/manual or website for your card). You may also need the Adaptec SCSI setup, available at this address:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppbyproduct.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=%2FTechnology%2FSCSI+Software&fromPage=driverindex

or use this address if you have a LOGIC based SCSI card or device:

http://www.lsilogic.com/

Now, if you meet the criteria for the first paragraph I wrote, and your PC does not load the driver automatically (after a reboot or two) then you have a PHYSICAL or HARDWARE problem. Either the DVD drive is improperly cabled, improperly installed or defective.

Those are all your options. See below, from Toshiba website
good luck

ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

Toshiba's CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives do not require any unique device drivers for Windows '95/'98/2000/XP/NT.
After installing your drive and re-booting, your system should recognize your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Win '95/'98/2000/XP/NT Operating Systems support all Toshiba ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives natively.

DOS/Windows 3.x Device Drivers

This device driver is to be used with DOS/Windows 3.x operating systems. Do not use this driver with Windows '95, Windows '98, XP or Windows 2000 unless you are going to use your system in the REAL or MS-DOS Modes. Device drivers for Windows '95, Windows '98, Windows 2000, XP, OS/2, and NT operating systems are provided with the installation or setup software of each operating system.

If you prefer using DOS click the link below to download a MS-DOS ATAPI interface driver.

SCSI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

SCSI interface drivers are written for the SCSI card you are using in your system, by the SCSI card manufacturer. They are not specific to your Toshiba drive and are not provided by Toshiba. If during installation Windows can not find the correct SCSI software driver for your SCSI card and you do not have the software driver that came with your SCSI card, contact your SCSI host adapter manufacturer.

Twinhead laptop

The floppy version of Oak CD Rom Driver it is trying to install, will only work on certain types of CD drives (usually IDE or IDE-compliant SCSI internals). It is rare that it will work on an "external" CD Rom. Very unlikely.

However, if this is a good brand-name external CD drive like a "Backpack", you can make a floppy boot disk with their own proprietary driver (look on their website or old version sites). Usually the external CD drive manufacturer will provide either a driver to add to a MS boot floppy, or they will provide a specialized floppy image that you can use instead of the MS boot floppy.
