Problem with Bostitch CWC200ST. This unit has never ran correct. Using no extension cords, plugged directly into receptacle w/ 20 amp breaker, said unit starts fine, trips reset thermal switch usually between 30 to 50 lbs. Press reset switch, then it runs up to around 80 to 90 lbs. trips again, reset again and it pressures up to cut off around 125 lb. It has been in the shop at least twice, they said nothing is wrong. Both capacitors test good, pressure switch and unloader valve are good. Motor does get very hot very quick. Been on the shelf for about 4 yrs., disgusted. Help would be very appreciated. Thanks, Tommy, MS.

SOURCE: breaker relay tripping out

If the unloading valve trips , which i think is the safety valve that tells me the compressor is pumping up past its maximum allowed pressure. that black switch should be the overload switch. check the amps of the wires going to the motor while its running and then look at the name plate of the motor to see the maximum amount of amps that the motor is allowed to draw.

SOURCE: air compressor trips breaker after it has built pressure.

you have air leaking back to the cylinder which means when it goes on the compression stroke the air in the tanks have gone in to the cylinder and this makes it hard for the piston to go up on the tank from the pump is a pipe that leads into a gold non return valve this has a rubber ring and a spring inside take this out and turnit over then try this obviously draining the tank if this doesnt help check the oil level and if thats ok your motor must be seizing up on bearings get back to me buddy

SOURCE: Trips motor circuit breaker at start up (zero air

Most likely the start capacitor is defective or the motor has internal problems. would advise having it checked at a motor repair shop.

SOURCE: When I lift the switch control on the compressor

Bill, is the unloader really dumping the head presure?

I think your start capacitors are done. Are you running this on 110 or 220? (I say this because of the dual rating you provided)

Remove the capacitors and take them to a electric supply house. Tell them what you told me and they will get you the parts you need.

Remember these things store dangerous amounts of electricity.

How do i fix my dewalt 55155 air compressor

It is a 15 amps motor and will need 6 times (90) that amount of amps to start up. Plugging it into a 15 amps circuit may work but a 20 amps circuit is more apropiate. Kitchen circuits are 20 amp circuits.
You can try plugging the compressor directly into the wall and see if it refills with air without trippiing the circuit breaker. Using an extension cord should be done with a #12 or #10 wire gage type, smaller type will cause a power loss in the cord and will cause the compressor motor to trip the circuit breaker.
Power formula is I square R, or the amps multiplied by itself and by the resistance of the wire. E.G. 90x90x4 = 3200 watts. This is at start up. To find the voltage drop divide the watts by current, 3200/90 = .... get the point? Keep voltage drops to a minimum, use heavy wire gage extension cords.

Bought a used air compressor with no owners manual. Just read that you should never use an extra long extension cord. Could doing this cause the motor to struggle and the unit to shut down?

If it is a 120V compressor, they draw about 20 amps when running. It takes a clean 120v plug and a 20 amp circuit breaker and dedicated outlet to operate them. Make sure the plug copper contacts are clean and bright and the receptacle also. It also takes a very heavy extension cord to operate them on a extension (and is not recommended), use a longer pressure hose instead.

Dedicated 20 amp outlet

Ideally you should run the line straight from the circuit breaker out to your hot tub, but if the line running from your circuit breaker to the box you're using now is 20amp. you can absolutely connected to that. to be up to code it cannot be an open box it needs to be closed After you wire in your 70ft connection. (that's assuming the box that you're using is dedicated already to your hot tub) then the only difference would be is your using extra line and costing you tenths of a penny extra and electricity per hour.

If your plugged in to a 15 amp household receptacle, then an extension cable of any kind or length, then that is likely your problem. An AC unit should have 20 amps of good power available to it. If your using an extension cord of any kind, and it is any less than 12 gauge wire, then that will cause a drop in voltage as well. Obviously the best scenario would be to install and wire a 30 amp receptacle outside your house just for that use, if done often. Take a voltage reading at receptacle, then inside RV, and see how it is probably a little less without even the AC on, then when AC kicks in, or tries to.
It may work once in a while, but it's not good for the AC to try and operate on low voltage, which causes a higher amperage draw.

The socket next to my washer was used to put in an extension cord to fix my deck with a power saw. The socket is still out, but the breaker works for then lights there.

Usually the washer circuit is a seperate 20A circuit. The lights would be on a different circuit usually 15A. Check your panel and see if there is a 20 breaker tripped. Hopefully your panel is labeled (or it should be) Are you saying this tripped while using the extension cord? Another possibility is that it is controlled by a GFCI outlet. You can connect additional receptacles to a GFCI outlet to protect them. Check to see if you have a GFCI receptacle tripped (in garage, bathrrom etc)

Powers up for a few seconds then cuts out and goes dead

Make sure your extension cord can provide 13 amps or greater of current. The longer the extension cord the more current it requires to supply the 13 amps to your power washer. If your unit has a long extension cord it could pull more than the typical 15 amps used for a household circuit breaker. If you do not have an adequate circuit breaker it will continue to trip. Plug the unit directly into the power receptacle or use a larger current rated power cord and power receptacle. If the problem persists then the unit could be pulling too much current due to motor restrictions.

My K5.20M power washer won't start. Am looking

Make sure your extension cord is able to provide 13 amps or greater of current. The longer the extension cord the more current it requires to supply the 13 amps to your power washer. If your unit has a long extension cord it could pull more than the typical 15 amps used for a household circuit breaker. If you do not have an adequate circuit breaker it will continue to trip. Now that you have the correct power supply you will notice the GFI Test and Reset buttons by the power washer plug. Plug the power washer into the power receptacle which has live power. Make sure the power washer is off and then push the reset button located on the power washer plug until you hear a click. The GFI should be reset and you can now turn on your power washer.

When i turn my ac unit on it trips the breaker that i am plugged into

Make sure that you are plugged into a 20 amp circuit minimum, if possible use a 30 amp circuit. Next, are you using the cord that is attached to the unit and only that cord? Do not use a regular extension cord unless that cord is rated at at least 20 to 30 amps. The ac unit will draw alot of power at the initial startup in order to start the compressor and using an extension cord is not recommended. If you are doing these things correctly, cord from the unit and the proper rated circuit, the problem may lie in the ac unit itself. There is a capacitor that needs to be checked to be sure that it is functioning properly, cost is around $30. The next thing to have checked is the compressor itself. Good luck.

Switch on and trips breaker.

Must be your breaker amp must be below requirement. Do not use an extension cable, make it short as possible to the source. It would also be better if you have a separate breaker switch just for your compressor in the panel box.

This may seem a bit simplistic but how are you hooked up to the outlet? Are you using an extension cord or is the compressor plugged in only using the supplied power cord?
If you are using an extension cord then you are going to pop the breaker every time you use it. Infact the manual states

"Never use an extension cord with this product. Use additional air hose instead of an extension cord to avoid power loss and
permanent motor damage. Use of an extension cord voids the warranty."
Air compressors don't like extension cords.
It simply draws to much for an extension cord to handle.
Depending on whether or not your warranty is out there is a simple solution. Find the biggest gauge extension cord you can

If your not using an extension cord and it's ran in the past where it's plugged in now then check the circuit because there must be new draw on the breaker

You said the breaker is 20amp. correct? The compressor should be run on a breaker dedicated to the compressor only.

Even though you should use a longer hose instead of a longer power cord you can get away with it. But forget about wire gauge size you need to think wire diameter. The extension cord I made for my compressor is approximately 3/4" thick. That is the only way I was able to use an extension cord on mine. A good place to get that size cable is a boat supply store. The cable used for shore power on boats works.
Hope this helps but if not please let me know and I'll try and help anyway I can to solve your problem.
