Normaly the lens would go in, as soon as the battery runs low.
Perhaps you should wait till you unpluged the camera.
Try to charge the battery in the external charger. Then after replacing the battery everything should work fine.

SOURCE: Battery Problem

These cameras have a internal battery that holds data for the camera to keep its settings. These batteries can be replaced but the camera has to be disassimboled to change it they should be able to be changed at a local camera shop pretty cheap.

SOURCE: Battery Problem

I just had this problem today myself, and looked everywhere online for a solution. I changed the batteries (to Panasonic), and it didn't help. But i tried different batteries (Energizers) and the camera started working again.

SOURCE: LENS ERROR

You are basically right. Its basically as easy to replace as it costs to repair, unfortunately those are your options. You could inquire as to an estimate to make your decision easier, or locate an independent repair shop as they may be cheaper. The camera would need to be taken apart and I only recommend that if you know what your doing.
Thanks,
Lee

Sounds like you have a bad battery. Check your users manual for how to change it.

My Kodak Pixpro FZ51 camera showed the message Battery Exhausted and then shut off. I am trying to charge it but when I plug it in to charge the light blinks red and it doesnt charge. I have let it do

I'm affrays your battery is gone. You could try to measure the voltage it is still giving with a multi meter, but I think it will be at least 1,7 volts less than what is printed on the battery. This means at least one cell in the battery is dead. I can't believe the contacts are dirty or oxidised, because the camera is too young. But if the contacts are not clean, try cleaning them with a dry cloth. If you should buy a new battery, make it a habit to charge it at least every couple of months, even if you only use it once a year. A battery is better off when charged and discharged now and then, then when you keep ik laying in a drawer.

Bought a Nikon Coolpix S3000 (orange) for my daughter after Christmas. It just stopped working one day; wouldn't charge, no lights or come on. The battery it came with is a Nikon lithium ION Battery...

Read page 16 of the manual. Do not use any other charger with this camera. Are you sure you have the battery inserted correctly? When trying to charge, does the green light blink? If so, when it stops blinking and turns off, the battery should be fully charged. Do not attempt to turn the camera on while the charger is trying to charge the battery.

Charger red lite flashing. Camera comes on for one second and shuts off

Hello,
Here's a copy from the owners manual:
■ Charging LED
Red LED is on = Being charged
Red LED is blinking = Charging error
Green LED is on = Carging is complete

● If the charge indicator blinks as red, it indicates a battery charging error.
- The battery is not properly inserted
- The terminals of battery are dirty or damaged
If the battery is inserted properly and the charge indicator continues to blink, contact the
nearest Samsung Camera Service Center.

Another charging error is when the batteries are so depleted, they won't charge up to 100% anymore = red light doesn't go out and remains on for too long, means get a new battery.

Camera does not switch on, even though new batteries have been put in it

Is the new battery fully charged?
You mean no lights at all even a quick blink on any other light when you switch it on?
Did you plug the battery in correct way? (I guess it wont fit if its the other way around :-) but there are batteries that doesn't have keyway and they fit exactly even if they are plugged in incorrectly meaning their connectors doesn't reach)

Contact the vendor or manufacturer of your camera if its still under warranty.
