Unable to use PS3 on HD channel

I have tried to set up PS3 to new Sanyo 42" LCD using the HDMI cable, but i can only get sound, no picture. I tried both HDMI channels and 2 cables. My friend took the PS3 to his house and it works fine in his HDMI channel.

1. Connect PS3 to your TV
2. Select the Correct HDMI input on your TV
3. Press and hold the [power] button on the PS3
4. perform setup.

These are the steps to setup the video output for the PS3, It is possible that it is set to a resolution that your TV does not support.

If this doesn't work, you may want to contact Sanyo to ask if they have some protection circuit for the HDMI input. Some manufactures TV's will deactivate(turn OFF) the HDMI input under certain conditions. Unplugging the TV or some other procedure usually turns it back ON.

I am unable to get a picture on hdmi when i connect my ps3, but am able to get sound when i use ps3 controller. any ideas ?

Steps

Step 1 Check for an HDMI port Check the back of your television for an HDMI port and refer to your owner's manual for your television's resolution. A resolution of 1080p offers the highest quality.
Most PS3 systems support 1.3 HDMI, but older systems may need a software update from the 1.1 or 1.2 version.
Step 2 Disconnect cables Disconnect all the cables and adapters from the back of your PS3, and then unplug your TV to reduce the risk of shock as you work.
Step 3 Connect HDMI cable Connect the HDMI cable. Reconnect the power cables on both the TV and the PS3 system.
Step 4 Hold power button Hold down the power button until the PS3 beeps and continue holding it for an additional five seconds until the system makes a second beep.
The Playstation 3 should detect the high definition cable and automatically adjust the settings to give you the best picture and sound possible.
Step 5 Test the connection Test the connection. If the HDMI cable isn't working, turn everything off and reconnect the original cables to manually change the settings.
Step 6 Adjust the settings Turn the system back on, select Settings, Display Settings, Video Output Settings, and then HDMI. Repeat the process for your Audio Settings. You can now experience your games with the highest video and audio quality available.

I have the same issue with my new LG 47lv5500. I too have time warner settings of 1080i but the sound on hd channels comes and goes. Picture is fine. When I switch back to non hd channels the sound is also...

That tv HDMI hub output for the HD tv signal are could be a bad HDMI cable should tries it with another new HDMI cable.If still have the same problems tries it with another HDMI tv hub hook up.That tv HDMI tv hub the one u using now might have a intermittent shorting like lose or dries solders joints that why sound come an goes.

hello chis, it may the ps3 your having trouble with connect ps3 to hdmi 1 reset the ps3 by doing this. press and hold the standby button on the front of the ps3 you will hear 1 bleep then 2 short bleeps after the short bleeps release the button this will reset the display setting on the ps3 you should get1080p if this dfon't work feel free to get back to me thanks

No sound on NON HD channels

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.
