Sony DSC-T200 Dropped on floor - grinding noise

Bummer..camera was dropped on tile floor and now whenever camera is turned on, a grinding sound begins and the camera starts shaking. I am unable to take clear pictures because of the camera shaking. Can this be fixed?

Joy,

thank you for using fixya.

the zoom and focus assembly is at fault, the grinding noise and shacking is a result of s de-railed plastic gear.

if the camera is still under warranty have it serviced, take note that if the gear is broken and not de-railed, mounts may be broken also.

here is an example of the assembly.

hope this helps.

Hello,

Bummer huh? I dropped mine a while back and damaged my battery cover!

I would try...taking out the batteries and reinstalling them! This may reset your camera?

Otherwise, I would do a web search and type in:

It's making a grinding noise.

It's the zoom mechanism. You either have dirt / sand trapped in there or the gears have broken.

Dropped my Cybershot DSC-T200 & now it doesn't work

Hi Emmygrace,

Dropping it can cause a several problems inside the camera from mechanical to electrical. To try and troubleshoot that yourself can be very difficult.
There are certain issues that you can fix by "banging it" but they are a last resort and ONLY if you are ready to trash the camera.

I'm sorry, it's probably not what you want to hear, but you really ought to take it to an authorized repair shop.
