Route problem We took our GPS to Italy with loaded maps. GPS will not give us a route to follow. Shows map and location and where we are driving just fine but if we ask it to take us somewhere it gives us "Route Calculation Error...no roads near starting point"

If you don't have "Detailed Maps" for the area you are travelling in, it will not have adequate map detail to create routes that are not on major highways.

To remedy this, you will need to use another of GARMIN's products... I believe it's called Mapsource City Navigator, and will have to be purchased for the area you are concerned with. This PC software will then allow you to load additional Map Data onto an SD card, which will slip into the slot on the left side of the unit.

You can find out about it at their website www.garmin.com then look in Maps

I need a users manual for navmii gps navigation software For Windows

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/navmii/9nblggh10k57 = software.

Navmii used to have an old manual at http://www.navmii.net/bin/Navfree_UserGuide_v1.0.1.pdf
The link no longer works.
Here are some basics:
Basic Navfree Help
Navigation is easiest if locations are added to Favourites before navigating. To check a location before adding it to Favourites, or find a location near another location:
Tap Menu icon at bottom right of map screen. Tap Navigate on Main Menu. Tap Address or Google.
Type name to find. Done. Tap down-arrow beside item . Tap Show on map.
Check it is the correct place. If so tap down-arrow and Add to Favourites.
Or drag map to required location. Tap on map. Select Add to Favourites. Change name if required.
To enter a route from A to B, when A is not the current GPS location.
Need to disable GPS in Android Settings - Location.
Easiest if A and B are entered into Favourites. Use Google Search or Address to find names and descriptions, then Add to Favorites.
Then tap Navigate on Main Menu. Tap Favourites and select A.
Tap box with Favorites name in it, and select 'Route from Here'.
Tap Menu icon at bottom right of screen. Tap Navigate. Tap Favourites.
Tap 'Route here'. Tap 'Selected' (not Gps).
Tap 'My Route' to see Route on map.
To clear route: From Main Menu, tap Clear Route.
Cant edit or delete (sometimes) Favourites. Use Jota app . See forums.

Still looking for manual, there blog is very helpful which is the link above.

Cannot Calculate the route - Garmin Nuvi 3760

My probleme:

When you want to select (established) a route (Finding Location or Planing a Trip) the device machine can not calculate route and displays the following message: "Route waypoint memory is full". The device is Garmin 3760T.

I found the solution:

1. Start the device.

2. Touch "Wiew Map or Map"

3. Touch on bottom right of screen (Speed)

4. Hold your finger on top center of screen for 5-10 seconds (the speed semicircle between Trip A and Trip B). The unit would go into "Diagnostic Page".

5. Select "Clear all user data" and confirm.

Warning: will erase all user-selected data (Home, Recently Found, Favorites, Trip Planner, ....).

My Gamin Nuvi can't unlock maps

Use a Garmin 1450

The Garmin Nuvi 1450 can be used while driving or walking.

While driving, use the Nuvi 1450 to create a route to your destination and get step-by-step directions, to hear the names of upcoming streets, to tell you when to change lanes and to find out the speed limits on unfamiliar streets.

As a pedestrian, you can have the Nuvi 1450 create a route for you that uses a mixture of walking and public transportation, such as the subway or bus system, if you have purchased cityXplorer maps for that area.

Tap "Where to?" to set up a route. The "Where to?" icon is a large magnifying glass.

Tap "Addresses." The available categories are address, points of interest, go home, recently found, favorites and intersections.

Input the name of the state or county, if it is out of town.

Then tap "Spell city." Spell out the name of the city using the pop up keyboard.

Press "Done."

Enter the address number and press "Done."

Then enter the street name and press "Done."

The "Go" screen opens automatically.

Tap the green "Go" button. The Nuvi 1450 will now calculate a route to the address.

Follow the voice prompts and map highlight to your destination.

Navigate Using Coordinates

Tap "Where to?" and then tap "Coordinates."

Tap the coordinate you want to adjust/input a new coordinate.

Tap "Format" to choose the right coordinate format for the map you are using.

Enter the coordinates. Tap "Next."

Tap the green "Go" button to calculate a route.

Use the Map Page

Navigate to your destination by following the voice prompts, highlighted route on the map and directions located at the top of the map screen.
Tap the "turn" icon located in the upper left corner of the screen to see the next turn. It may have a turning or straight arrow and the number of miles until the turn. Tap the bar across the top with the next direction listed on it to see a list of all directions.

Tap the plus or minus signs on the right side of the screen to zoom in or out.

Press the spinning arrow in the lower left corner of the screen to return to the main menu.

Tap the "car" icon traveling along the highlighted route to enter the "Where Am I?" screen and get your exact location, coordinates and nearby emergency services.

Hope this helps

Corupted map after update? How to correct?

Perform the update again. I think was an error on the first update.

Try the below procedure:

1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.
2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web addres: "http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 "
3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).
4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

HOW DO YOU CONTINUE ON A SAVED ROUTE AFTER YOU HAVE MADE THE FIRST STOP? I WENT BACK TO THE ROUTE AND STARTED IT AGAIN BUT WHEN I PROCEEDED, IT JUST TOOK ME IN A CIRCLE BACK TO WHERE I JUST WAS. ALSO,...

When you reach the first stop on a saved route the satnav should automatically set the next stop as it's destination. If it doesn't it's possible that the spot you saved as your first stop was not exactly right i.e. you didn't drive to where it's marked on the satnav. If this is the case you need to mark the spot by driving to it and pressing the car (which shows your location on the satnav) and this gives you an option to save present location. Save it and use it instead of the one you entered by address. Then when you're setting your route you'll find it in your favourites and add it from there.

To get back to the map go back to the screen which shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP. Press VIEW MAP and it will bring you back to your map and should continue with your route.

Does not give shortest route when requested.

its probably not the gps itself. there could be a few reason why you might think its not giving you the shortest route.

  • the maps might not have recent roads added, depending how old there are, making it seem like the gps isnt giving you the shortest route, when in fact, according to its database based on your location and your destination.

the same would apply if you used the fastest time. if the database in the gps says the road is 65mph and the local township reduced the speed limit on that road to 45mph due too to many accidents, then you gps is not going to be accurate.

if you feel thats not the case, i would suggest getting the firmware update for your 4000 and the map update. both can be found HERE

How to load maps from google to garmin

This solution works for more than the 760. i think it will work for all 6xx and 7xx series.
a simple solution to convert Google maps to Garmin routes and is found here:
http://www.elsewhere.org/journal/gmaptogpx/

In essence, you create your route in Google maps and then click the recommended url bookmark.

Save the GPX file to the Garmin device and from "My Data" (under Tools) convert the file to a route. You are done.
hope this helps pls appreciate by rating as fixyaa thanks

Route calculation error

I was having the same problem and contacted Garmin support.

What I had done was turned off the Basemap that came with the unit. I only had the mapsource map street map on which I had purchased separately.

The technician basically said the unit needed the basemap to "locate itself". Somehow the basemap supports any maps you purchase separately. That seemed odd but once I turned the Basemap back on it calculated the routes and the error message went away.

If you have the Basemap off, try turning it on from the Map Setup - Information window.

Hope this helped.
