I have tried to disable the inactivity time out using "updates." After I went through that procedure, my receiver still shut itself off in the AM. Why?

The updates screen shows two different options:

1) Inactivity time out. You CAN disable this feature.

2) Updates. You CAN NOT disable this feature. The receiver must shut down and download a new Program Guide and software (if needed) once each day. You CAN change when this happens, so choose a time that is most convenient to you. If you are watching TV at the time it needs to do this, you can select not to have it download, but eventually, the receiver will shut down to do its download anyway.

PS-if you are a commercial customer (your receiver provides programming to a TV or sound system in view/hearing of customers of your business) you can call customer service to have this feature disabled, but it can only be disabled for commercial customers, and the customer service you reach as a residential customer will have no idea what I'm talking about. Do not pretend to be a commercial customer if you are not, your bill will be much different, and not in your favor, and there will be no way of reversing it.

AVR-1508 7.1 Channels Receiver: My Denon AVR-1508 won't stay on. Once I try to tak...

Not familiar with this model but seems like the protection circuit is kicking in, this could be caused by an imbalance of Ohms between channels or a short. remove & check all speakers and cables for continuity or shorts, does the unit power on without speakers or in a different mode (surround off).
always add speakers in pairs (L&R) before testing to prevent possible protection circuit, test main speaker pair first then add surrounds (all according to the allowable Ohms range for the amp of course)

Receiver powers on then shuts down. Any mode (CD AUX,VIDEO,etc) will cause same result. Sometimes FM mode will keep receiver on for longer. Once speakers are connceted, shut down happens no matter which...

If it's not happening when your speakers are disconnected, your problem is not in the receiver, it's either a wire touching at the terminals on the rear of the receiver, or a bad voice coil or crossover in your speaker. If you re connect the speakers and it immediately cuts out, disconnect all speakers and reconnect one by one testing the receiver each time until your receiver shuts off or remains on with all wires connected and you've fixed the problem. If it cuts out, disconnect the problem speaker at the speaker and test again. If it stays on, problem is in the speaker, if it still cuts out, problem is in the wire. Hope this helps. If you need further help, post a comment and I can help you troubleshoot some more.

My receiver shuts down frequently , wakes back after 2 or 3 sec .

do you have sufficient space around the unit? If it is in an enclosed space, has other components on top, etc, you may be overheating the receiver. Once it gets too hot it can potentially cause the issues you mention above.

If you have other components on top, try moving them to another shelf or below the receiver, and if you have a door on an entertainment center, leave the door open to help with air flow.

Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channels Receiver I bought a reciver just 4 days back. It worked fine for 2 days and yesterday when i tried to increase the volume, it shut off. I tried troubleshooting to see if there...

If you have disconnected all connections from the receiver including your sources and the unit shuts down and goes in protect then there is an internal shortcircuit on the receiver and you would need to send that to an authorized service center. Now, since you just bought it 4 days ago, if you purchased it from an authorized dealer of Onkyo you could have it replaced since its way within the 30 day return policy. But, if you have purchased it from circuit city, unfortunately your option would only be the service center for repairs. If you send it to an authorized service center, you would need to put in a copy of your sales receipt together with a brief description of the issue you are encountering. Where did you purchase your 806?

Dish 625 shuts off without warning and fan runs high

Unfotunately this is an event known as power cycling and the only resolution is another receiver. This issue is due to faulty internal components and has nothing to do with anything other than that fact. If you have further questions feel free to contact me. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
