Print tray 2

I cannot get my printer to use tray 2 as the default. It always goes to manual feed.

  • Pete Fotheringham Mar 05, 2014

the tray settings can be adjusted by openingthe driver window ( control panel- my printers ) use the tabs at the top look for 'Paper' under this tab you can set which is default, what the default paper size is, whether the printer adjusts the print size to fit paper and even low/high toner/ economode levels - hope this helps,

if you using office go to page setup and select the tray(s) that you want to use for the first page and other pages ( both must be the same ) unless you only want the first page as letter head and the rest on plain paper or something along those lines ?

Also if you go into the properties of the printer and go to advanced and then click on the printing defaults button and see if the options in there are the same or different to whats in printing preferences.

If they are set to tray 1 then it will default to tray 1

SOURCE: HP Laserjet 4700 Always Defaults to Tray 1

Your tray 1 might be open (even just partially) or your manual feed setting might be on. You can find this setting under > Configure device / Printing / Manual Feed

SOURCE: HP color laserjet 4600 dn printer How do I set

From the control panel of the printer, do the following:
1. arrow down once to highlight the 2nd item: "paper handling".
2. press the check button (turquoise color) to select this option.
3. arrow down 2x's until you highlight the "tray 2 size".
4. hit the check button to select this item.
5. You should see a size that is "letter" and there should be a ' * ' asterisk which means that is the default setting. If you see other paper sizes as well, then arrow up or arrow down to highlight the preferred size, and then press the check button to insert the asterisk ' * ' which will set that as the default.
6. you change the paper type as well as paper size for the other trays in the same fashion. Most HP printers will select paper according to the SIZE as well as the TYPE. The printer can "sense" the paper size in the paper cassette tray by the stops that hold the paper. Therefore the printer will choose that paper based upon the SIZE and what you define as its type.

Why my HP LJ 4100 is always taking envelopes from tray 1, even when I try to print from tray 2?

Check your feed rollers in tray 2. Sounds like they are worn and the paper cannot be pulled from tray 2 so it goes to tray 1

Mfc 7860dw will not print from paper tray

Check the paper level in tray 1 and keep the paper within the levels indicated by the arrows on the side. I had this same problem, and although the paper tray accommodates the extra paper, the printer obviously does not like it and defaults to the manual feed.

Every time when printing there is a message MANUAL FEED, load paper and click continue

Please check your printer driver to see if the default tray is tray 2 or other than the manual feed tray and take the paper out of the manual tray.
