Your USB ports on your computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.

  1. Click the Start button. ClickControl Panel.
  2. ClickSystem and Maintenance.
  3. ClickDevice Manager.
  4. Double-clickUniversal Serial Bus controllersand check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  5. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

To Update the USB Port Driver

An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
  • Watch a Video on Steps to Update Bios on Your Computer.
    1. When the update process is complete, your computer will restart again to load the operating system with the new driver version installed.

Pavilion dv7-6c95dx usb question

According to your manual the 3.0 USB Ports are on the left side of the computer and they are backwards compatible with 2.0 and 1.0 usb devices.

The right side of your computer is 2.0 and backwards compatible with 1.0 usb devices. The fact that your devices won't work on the right side tells me that they are 3.0 devices and will only work on the left side.

Here's a link to your user manual. Look at the description of the left side and right side usb ports. It gave the speil about 3.0 for the ports on the left side.

Team promark keyboard won't work

If it has a USB plug, try attaching it through a different port hub, i.e. not the usb port right next to the one that didn't work. If that doesn't work, test the usb port with something else first. If the USB port is not the problem, you may need to download a driver for the keyboard.

I can't get my usb devices to work on my dell 4600 series pc. It won't reconise anything I try to plug in to the usb ports.

Try deleting your usb drivers.

Right-click My Computer
Manage
Device Manager
USB Controllers
Delete (Generic USB Hub)
Restart computer
(Windows will auto-install the drivers, on reboot)

Plug your device back in, and see i've it works.

My two right hand usb ports are not working!

Hi,
Three questions that will resolve the issue:
1. Did the printer work? Was it working till the end when you unplugged it?
2. Hopefully you have tried the same devices in other ports and they are working. Else the device maybe faulty.
3. Is the device manager showing any components without drivers?

If the above three points are ok, you may have the seldom case of USB short circuit. USB has power lines. They normally dont short so easy - but things happen.

I would say - ignore the ports. Buy a cheap new hub and use it in one of the working ports. That is your best and cheapest solution.

It may be that you need to update your drivers

Start here

Microsoft's built in drivers may not be making best use of your hardware and causing the problem you describe.

The driver may be for the motherboard and not usb.
Either way it provided you with the opportunity to update other drivers too
