The GPU in every laptop is soldered in place, if you have a lot of experience with reflowing then you can try to pull the GPU and replace it but a lot of the time it's actually more cost effective to get a replacement MB and sell the one that's having issues. Because the GPU may not be the only part that has gone out or it maybe another part that has gone out and is keeping the GPU from powering or outputting signals
Testimonial: "I wish I would have taken pictures of it before I put it back together to show what I am talking about. Am I looking at the wrong thing then as it is not soldered to the motherboard, you can use a quarter and unscrew the housing from the GPU. Maybe I am just confused. Thanks for the input"

Ok in order to hook up the laptop to the TV you have 2 options
First option.
Buy something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Sewell-Converter-All-One-Cable/dp/B003BVVYSM it will directly interface your laptop with your tv. The benefit will be you will get sound to your tv from the laptop
second option.
you will need a vga to hdmi cable like this one
you can buy this here
now this option will only let you have just the video from your laptop on the television because a VGA cable is a video only cable and port.
I hope this helps you.
