I have a Sony trinitron and a few days ago it kept turning off by itself and id turn it back on and a few minutes later it would turn off again. Then the picture started to disappear and the turning off would come quicker and now the tv makes a click when you try to turn it on but it doesnt turn on. The light where it says stand by/timer keeps blinking, but i dont know where the manual is so I cant look there.

I have a sony trinitron 32" tv had same problem with 3 blinking lights i purchased a replacement transformer lot2196 from thunmbs up ltd uk for £22 including postage and a transistor from ebay 85p and this has sorted it but now cant reinstall built in freeview hope this helps and hope someone can help me
It seems to me there is a loose connection in the oscillator section.
some capacitors in that section have gone faulty.
also change the switches in the front panel so itself on& off problem will be solved.

Check for any loose solder connections in the main power regulator section of this TV. It will be very difficult to detect loose solder terminals, as they will be microscopically small to ***** eye. It is best to re-solder all the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more fresh solder to each solder terminals.
Here's my suggestion , unhook all the external components to the TV
and leave the TV unplugged for more than a few minutes (a
day/overnight). The next day plug the TV into the wall outlet (not the
powerstrip) without anything hooked up to it, and turn it on. See if it
comes on. Sometimes unplugging for a few minutes/hours is not long
enough for it to reset itself.

I believe there may have been some parts that were burned out due to high voltage. There are cases where insects such as lizards penetrated and got stuck then got stuck then got electrecuted inside. You can open the back cover of your unit or better, refer to the repairman.

sound like problem with regulated parts block.....and can more helpfull if you count the blinking of the LED....sony have selft diagnostic at the LED Blinking.....
Jar-Head, bad news, the picture tube has a mild short in the green cathode, tech can come out and try to restore it but it`s usually a futile attempt on sony tubes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider
