i have a similar problem. i'm getting the blue screen of death on my Maxtor HD. i've tried to open it with my external drive just to try and save any info before trying to do a clean install but i keep getting (drive not accessible because of an I/O device error) i have looked this up everywhere and asked many people.

    so my 2 questions are:

    1. does this sound like it may be fixable?

    2. how or where can i get the info to fix it if it is?

i hope it was enough info and thank you in advance for any help offered

Acer extensa 4630z I am trying to reboot Vista but I cannot get to the proper screen. I can get no further than Edit Windows boot options for: Microsoft Windows Vista

You may have to get a CD/DVD of Vista from your friend or associate for reinstallation of the operating system. If you go to Windows 7 or 8.1 you would be better off than waste time with Vista and all of its problems. If the CD Drive is not working, get an External USB CD/VDV drive from WalMart. They are not expensive and they come in handy at times. Plug the external CD/DVD into a USB port and start up the computer seeking the new device. Run the Software the same as you would from your unstable device.

My acer is not getting past a start screen, its loads an error on a black screen, saying it cannot locate the operating system. It will allow me to go to set up but I'm not sure what I'm doing?

This error comes out when the pc cannot find the hard disk.
Does the bios detect it? What is the exact error?
If the error you get is NTLDR missing you should install again the operating system (i.e. Windows)
If the error you get is no bootable device can be an hardware problem. Please check the connection of your hard disk. If connection is good you may want to remove the hard disk and buy a new one. The old hard disk you can put into a usb drive and copy your personal data so you can have it back.
If with the new hard disk you are not successful it could be a motherboard problem and you should take it to assistance

I got a message that reads Non-System disc or disc error replace and strike any key when ready. What do I do?

Hi,

Here the reason why youre getting the error message

Remove the non-system disk from your boot device. For example, remove the non-system disk from the floppy drive or the CD-ROM drive.

Change your computer's boot sequence in you Bios. Make sure that you select a device that has boot files (or operating system files) installed.

If you start your computer from a hard disk drive, install a bootable operating system (such as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7) on the drive.

Booting Error Message No Operating System Found

Hi!

Make sure that hard drive is detected in BIOS. If not, there is a problem with the hard drive and any attempt to install OS will be futile since there is no hard drive detected. If this basically means you have a busted hard drive, you may need to replace it then to continue with OS installation.

Thanks.
