Question about Canon PowerShot A95 Digital Camera

Canon A95 operability issue

At first, I thought my A95 might have been simply having the E18 lens error, or some battery issue, but now I'm perplexed. The camera's been pretty well taken care of (never dropped, stored in case, no harsh weather short of maybe light rain once in a while). One day it would extend the lens a bit, then stop and say change the batteries. Now it won't even extend (it may briefly illuminate the LCD, though). I've used both freshly recharged batteries and new alkaline ones with no result. Note that the viewscreen has never said "E18" either. Upon connecting to an outlet, the camera mostly works. In "review" mode, it works perfectly, no issues at all. In "capture" mode, it will extend and retract the lens, but only briefly, then shut off and say 'change the batteries' (while connected to an outlet?). This, however, is only when the LCD screen is operative. When the screen is closed, the camera will activate fine, stay on, even take pictures. Is this something that could be fixed easily or is it more likely that this is a service issue for a dealer? Any help is appreciated.

Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.

The screen won't come on for viewing and the lens won't retrack, it also started popping up with E18

That is shutter error code. I am sorry to tell you have to buy a new camera, it would be to expensive to replace.

My Cannon PowerShot A95 keeps coming up with E18 when I turn it on. What does this mean?

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Canon A95 Cannot be switched off

Hello there,
The E18 error is related to the LENS not able to retract fully. If it is still under warranty, I would advise you bring it to the nearest service center. This is to avoid further damages. Otherwise, you can try a few things below.
There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Turn it on and then off. Spray canned air around the lens.
If trick 1 will not work out, try this.
2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn on the camera and then give it a couple of firm whacks on the side. Make sure nothing is blocking the lens and wait for it to fully retract.
Let me know how it goes.

My canon A95 comes on and goes off after few seconds.

Try to reset your camera using a command in the set up menu. An error message followed by turning itself off, usually means lens jam. Replace the lens.

E18 on Canon Powershot A95

Canon E18 error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend. The camera will beep a few times and the LCD will display a little E18 in the lower-left corner. The lens gets stuck in the extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off.

take a look at e18error.com website for more info
