YELLOW AND BLUE SQUIGGLY LINES ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN

I have a Sony 50 inch kf-50we610 . Would not turn on, repair man said it needed a color wheel, I told him this unit does not use color wheel then he told me his tec. didn't know the exact terminology etc. then he told me it wold cost 450$ total and I said for what? Repair man said for replacing the color lamp and that the lamp would cost him $300. I looked up the lamp and purchase it on line for $129 and gave him to replace (Sony A1606034B Replacement Lamp). When we went to pick up the tv and look at the picture there were blue and yellow squiggly lines on the right of the screen. The shop gave us a $800 quote to replace a part called prism. as he said that was causing those squiggly lines. When I heard that I just took the tv home in frustration. My question is, what could cause those squiggly lines and how can we get rid of them. and did this repair shop replace a so called color lamp or is it a regular lamp that goes in these models? I sorta feel taken by this shop. any help would be great.

My Sony has, after 4 years, suddenly presented several lines, some in right angles off a 45 degree main one - they resemble a road map for a city. They do not pass blue colors and show as yellow or dark lines, depending on the background colors. Blue background, the lines look black. Lighter colors, they look yellow. I am surprised an LCD unit would do this, since the mirror system would seem more reliable and steady. I'm searching the net to find solutions, and as usual, Sony has nothing worth reading about it since they wouldn't post "problems".....

Hi Fkanode.
The failure(s) in your TV is related to a part called light engine or optical block and Sony TVs are known for these kind of failures with the video showing with different colors or lines.
Check the link provide for more info or if you would like to try fixing the TV yourself.
Let me know if you would need further assistance.

Blue hue accross bottom of screen - Sony KF-50WE610

You can try doing this, turn on the Tv and select the service menu, if that tint also shows on the menu, it's most probable to be your DMD board, but if it doesn't it might be the video board..

Blue points in the screen

This is a recurring problem with this model, along with the 50 and 60 inch models. The problem lies in the Optical block needing replacing. I've heard that Sony, depending on the serial number (or manuf. date), will cover the repair, in some cases, so I would certainly check an authorized Sony service center 1st.
Good luck

Vertical colored lines on Sony KF-50WE610

Hi Lucian

This is a common Mainboard failure problem on Projectors.

The unfortunate thing is that this can only be solved by having the part repaired or replaced.
