Question about Kenmore 5553 / 655532 / 55534 / 55539 Side by Side Refrigerator
We have a Kenmore side by side refrigerator, model # 253.56963600. The water dispenser works but the ice maker does not work at all. we have bought new filters but this does not solve the problem. Do you know what we should do?
A couple things to check here. First see if there is ice in the tray. If so chances are the ice maker will need to be replaced however these are very reliable ice makers. If no ice in the tray pull up on the ejector blade (don't worry you won't break it) turn clockwise to start the ice maker thru a cycle. The ejector blade is the long white bar with fingers on it that run the length of the tray. Once it completes a cycle it should fill with water. If no water then either the fill tube is frozen over and will need to be defrosted or the water valve is bad.

Found an ice cube in trough where water is dispensed(possibly on a sensor). upon removal, water was dispensed to ice tray.

My ice maker would not work, I found that there was not water in the ice section. The line was froze on the black tube entering the ice maker section inside the freezer. I took a hair dryer and thawed the black line an then had to heat the top section of the freezer to thaw the line going to the water valve. Make sure you do not leave the hair dryer in one spot to long because it will melt the liner of the freezer. But this did work.

Either your water tank in the fridge froze up, the waterline that goes up the freezer door from the bottom hinge froze, or the switch that your glass hits is damaged. Do you hear any humming or noises when you put your glass up to get water?

In most cases you can easily solve this problem.
step one would be to make sure your freezer is getting cold enough. If you have icecream in your freezer is it frozen solid or is it soft. Most icemakers cycle around 0 degrees and if your freezer is not getting to 0 then it will not cycle and it will not make ice.
Step two would be to make sure you icemake is cycling. To do this simply lift the little shut off arm on your icemaker and wait about an hour then go back to the icemaker and drop the arm down. The icemaker should start going through a cycle. You should notice the arm slowly begin to raise and the ice dispencer fingers will begin to turn. Then you will hear it call for water. You may hear a humm.
If the freezer is cold enough and the icemaker is cycling that only leaves the inlet valve. replace the valve and enjoy the ice.
If the freezer is cold enought and the icemaker does not cycle, then you have a bad icemaker. Simply replace the icemaker and viola.
Third if the freezer is not cold enought 0 defrees. Then you may have a defrost problem. In this case post more info and I will be happy to help. Good luck [email protected]

Ok, I show parts that are available for that model, sounds like the control board is defective for your dispenser, or possibly the Ice maker control board. It also could be a break in the wiring or the control itself. Below is a break down for those parts, wiring and the control behind the push to dispense ice or water. Hope it is not that control because some places don't provide that part. Now if it's a connection problem that we can find, I will do mu best to help you solve this.Could you insure the model number is correct as this is very important? [email protected]

Tips for a great answer:
maker not working: ---
Its the problem of water inlet valve. It's a
dual valve. This valve has two tubes in it. One for water dispenser and one
for ice maker chamber. The one side of valve is working, but other side of the
valve is not working. The valve is got stuck in one position
