I have a Canon Pixma MG5420. I would like to print index cards using the upper cassette but I can only get the printer to print from that cassette using photo printing software. Otherwise I can't access that cassette from the printing menu. Is there a way to get access to the upper cassette using Word or such?

Try opening control panel>devices&printers. Set the paper feed to the upper feed as permanent. Then on printer itself make sure that paper type, size and feed is where you want it.

SOURCE: Printing on a 3x5 card

sounds to me its software issue, the best way to do this is to go into your printer properties and check to see if it has selected 3x5 for print not 8 1/2 x 11

my wife has that problem all the time when shes trying to print pictures of the kids and ushally its due to not being setup on the printers properties you can also set it up from right here

if you go to file on the top menu here and then goto print from here we will be able to select the printer and goto the options on it and make sure the page is set for 3x5 make sure your printer is highlighted and then click on preferances and then look in there. I dont have a printer hooked upto my laptop right now so I cant give you any further steps but I know its in there.

let me know how you make out if I have to put a computer onto my laptop and give you more detail on this then I will

SOURCE: I need to download the software/Canon Pixma MP 240 series printer

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=2610&modelid=17161#DownloadDetailAct

go to this site and put in your operating system and you will get the drivers you require. I would uninstall the all of the older drivers reboot then install the new drivers. Remember not to connect your print to your computer until the new installing driver tell you to.
Hope this does the trick for you, good luck. Please leave a rating, thank you kindly

SOURCE: Pixma Pro 9000 Canon Printer is printing terribly

You need to check your nozzle check print and see if all the colors print. Also many generic inks are not the right color. Take out your yellow cartridge and see if it's still yellow, if it's orange or brown you need a new printhead, there's a membrane inside that keeps the colors separate and when it breaks you get cross contamination of the colors.

You may have accidentally installed updated firmware in your printer, so it doesn't recognize the carts anymore. You may have to "reset" the chips on your carts.
If resetting the carts doesn't help, I'd suggest contacting the place you got the refillable carts.

I have a canon mg5420 with a paper jam code 1311 but no paper in any the locations I check?

If all else fails try this:
(at your own risk)
1. Turn on the printer
2. Open the rear cover and remove the paper feeder there
3. Insert a sheet of paper from the rear (in the slot at where the paper feeder just was.
4. turn off the printer
The printers rolls will spin as it shuts down and it will pull in the paper, hopefully clearing the paper sensor.

This worked for my MG5420
