capacitors are most likely to blame here, there are several that most likely are on the power board and are blown if you get them replaced the tv will function normally, the heat can come from the transformer since it is not getting smooth power from the capacitors. it is working very hard to dump the spikes in the electricity. I ups backup power supply rated for the tv's wattage will help smooth power and protect your investment.

You need the remote for this= an exact one!

GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER WITH "REMOTE" AND DO NOT BOTHER WITH A universal---waste of money as it will not have key functions you need.

Sounds like back-light inverter fault. Shorted component/s at it. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

We have a JVC LT-37XM48 showing multi-colored horizontal and vertical lines.

replace the power supply...ebay sells them; the power supply has a number on it to tell you which one you need (be sure to leave the set unplugged for at least a day before you replace the power supply (to avoid a nasty shock from the charged up capacitors on the power supply board.

"Video One" displays in upper

Press Mode button to select TV. Then press the Display button. Set the Display to Off (choices are Detailed Mode, Clock, Simple Mode and Off). Pressing Menu should turn off the Display at any time.

Support for the LT-37X688 is available from JVC at http://support.jvc.com/consumer/product.jsp?archive=true&pathId=78&modelId=MODL028191 . The direct link to the manual is http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/92/YA535ien.pdf .

I hope this helps.

JVC LT 42x688 no picture just sound

Sorry, this has no easy fix. The good news is you do not need an LCD Panel. The bad news is the Video Processor has a problem.
This TV has x3 Boards. The one you should replace first is the one in the middle. If this doesn't fix it, try the one on the right. The Part #s are on the Boards if you wanna try ebay.

No video

I just tried re-setting the digital tuner, which for the JVC LT-37x688 is as simple as powering the TV on, and holding the chanel down and volume down buttons simultaneously for about 3-5 seconds. The screen will go to black, and the TV will power off. Turn it back on, and you get the JVC logo again as everything re-sets. This solved my problem with vertical colored bar lines vice a picture, and sound.
