The problem may be that your new memory is not compatable with the current memory and board, the easiest way is to remove your memory and just install the new memory and try all slots, if you get no boot then you know the memory is not compatable.

depends on the board, it could be either of the slots really, the pc wont work at all if you use the wrong one or it wont recognise some of the ram

I upgraded Memory to 4GB with Two 2GB SD Ram Modules but System shows Only One 2GB module and does not show/recognize second module. BIOS Setting Shows Second Slot/RAM Module Not Activated.

is the module in properly?,is anything broken?? switch them around and see if the module is good or not, also, just because the motherboard supports 2 modules,if intel only recognizes 2gb then that is all, whether you have 2 1gb modules or 2 2gb modules, upgrade your intel chip and upgrade your bios

I m trying to upgrade my HP compaq nc6320 RAM MEMORY from 1GB to 4GB, Do i need BIOS upgrade if yes from were i can find the drivers and how can i do it? thanx i am gone wait for respond......

Hi,

As far as I know, the machine supports 4GB of ram, so you purchase the ram modules from a pc parts dealer and install them inside the machine, removing the existing ram, there are 2 slots, so you need 2, 2GB cards.

You do not require any drivers or bios update.

Windows will need to be upgraded to 64Bit version if you wish to use the full capacity. as normal windows is limited to 3-3.75GB

Further questions? let me know.

I want to put in 3 x 2gb mem. I have the correct type but when i boot it does not work. i then put 2 x2gb and it works. is this a bios set up problem or something else?

Ram on an ATX motherboard is called "DIMMs", that means it has to be installed in Pairs, you cannot have an empty slot, if you are running windows XP or a 32 bit operating system, then I would put (2) 1 GB sticks in the same colored memory slot and then (2) 512 MB sticks in the other two alike color slots. The memory slots are color coded. If you were only putting in one pair of sticks they have to go in the same colored slots.

Abit AW8 LGA775 Maximum memory

Hi there
Sounds like the bios will need updating as the board will support 8BG ram.
Put your old memory back in the machine, boot into windows, go to the motherboards manufacturers website and download the latest bios update and install it and reboot.
make sure you read the info on how to install the bios update.
I must also warn you that if you are using a 32bit operating system it will only recognize 2.9BG of memory, there is nothing you can do about this apart from install a 64bit operating system if the board supports 64bit processors.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Motherboard ASUS P5RD1-VM ram problem

More people should complain with Asus support. Checking Asus forums, you'll find there's an obvious problem with a PCI-E video addon + 2 used memory slots. In my case, I had 2Gb (1 + 1), mb with bios version 1104, and it worked fine; when I installed a new PCI-E card, the system was very... very sluggish. Now I have uninstalled 1 memory, I'm using only 1Gb of RAM with the PCI-E card, and it's working well.

Again: checking Asus forum, this is a reported problem, and a bios bug... Asus should release a new bios version, but they seem not to bother, as this is a relatively "old' mb...

HOW TO ADD GRAPHIC CARD TO LAPTOP

it is not usually possible to upgrade the graphics card on a laptop. as the graphics chips are on the motherboard. and they do not usually have a graphics card slot.

some (quite recent) laptops have a graphics express slot which does allow for them to be upgraded.

most often you find that laptop graphics chips share mem with the main RAM (allocated) this is controlled in the BIOS(Setup) and it may be possible to increase the allocation of memory there,

but I'm sorry to say for most laptops there is no upgrade (flexibility is traded for portability)

the 5002WLMI does not appear to have a grpahics express slot, however you may be able to increase the mem allocation in the BIOS (as it does use allocateable shared memory)
