In trying to install OmniPage SE onto a new computer with the vista operating system, all goes well until I come to the installation of OmniScan SE. I get the message: "The wizard was interrupted before OmniPage SE could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again." I have downloaded a Vista version of OmniPage from Nuance, but this requires that OmniPage be installed first and then uninstalled. Since I cannot install OmniPage (bundled with Scansoft), I cannot apply the update. Nuance appears to be unable or unwilling to fix this problem.

Hi,
Unfortunately, Nuance most likely doesn't have a Vista patch to sort the problem with Omniscan.
The best advice I can give you is to remove Windows Vista from your system and install Windows XP.
Vista is riddled with bugs and incompatibilities with many software packages and has been replaced with Windows 7 which is due to be released soon.
Rather use windows XP until Windows 7 becomes available and save yourself many further headaches.
Let me know if you would like any further assistance.
Best regards,
Graemevm

My Canoscan 4200F has no OCR software. How do I get it?

OCR software is usually a third-party program. Sometimes it is available on the original driver CD but it isn't included in the downloaded driver software. In the case of the CanoScan 4200F, the CD included the OmniPage SE OCR program. The SE indicates a Special Edition only bundled with the scanner and was only available for the OS versions that had been released when the scanner was first available. If you have the original CD (for Win98-XP), try to install the program using the Custom install option. (Check your current OS version. A 32-bit OS is more likely to support the OmniPage SE. With Windows Vista and 7, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System to determine the version. x64 indicates a 64-bit OS. ) If your current computer doesn't have an optical drive, use an external optical drive to install the program.

If you do not have the CD or your OS is incompatible with the Omnipage version on the CD, you will need to either purchase OmnuPage ($99 with a rebate from many vendors), AbbySoft's OCR program or one of the other OCR programs. SimpleOCR is free for personal use, http://www.simpleocr.com/Info.asp . The biggest problem with the free OCR programs is that they do not handle documents with columns properly.

I wish that I had better news for you.

OmniPage Professional 16 fails to launch

uninstall the program, reboot and then reinstall it following the instructions and on-scree commands and prompts. if the result is the same, maybe consider changing the version of your os, maybe your os somewhat conflicts with the program. try using oem os'

I want to scan a paper and i want to save it as word so that i modify it. How can i do it?

It depends on if you have the full software installed. The MP160 documentation indicates it came wth ScanSoft OmniPage SE. Open MP Navigator and choose this program, you can output the scan as a text file. If you did a custom install, you may or may not have installed the program. If you omitted the program, do a new custom install.
OmniPage is an OCR program and will output to a number of formats (you will choose File, Save as) after scanning. Word can import RTF and most other choices as well as .doc files.

If you don't have the software disc, the software can be obtained from this URL:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=13368

Alternatively, there is a free OCR program (simpleOCR.com) that will do the same thing. However it doesn't handle text in columns (newspaper or magazines) very well.

I hope this helps.

Canon MP500 all in one printer is not compatible with Windows Vista. Is there a solution for this problem, or do I need to buy a different printer?

My Canon PIXMA MP500, purchased in mid-2006, came with the (then) ScanSoft OmniPage SE2 software on a CD. The PC had WinXP Installed. I had no use for the ScanSoft it so I made no effort to install it.
Fast Forward:
Two PC crashes later, July 2009. Using Win Vista Home Premium
LOST, important WinWord document file, only a hard copy available.
I tried to recover, scanning the "Xerox" copy. The SE Version of OmniPage was very complicated but I succeeded in producing a replacement *.doc file.

It appears that newer editions of WinVista contain the right printer drivers for this Canon Model.

Cannot install omnipage se. wizard interupts process

When unistalled the previous Omnipage SE 4.0 and try to install new update vresion, an error message keep poping up saying a previous version of Omnipage is still installed in the computer and can not install the new version. No more trace is found for old version in Add/Remove screen. The problems are in the registry area. Just run regedit (export the registry as backup) and look for Scansoft under the software directory. Deleted all the Scansoft omnipage traces then restart the computer will solve the problem.

Scanner problem

I presume your new laptop came with Vista and your old one had XP. Either convert your new laptop to XP (complicated but I wish I'd done it when I got my new computer rather than soldiering on with the indescribable rubbish system that is Vista), or install all the latest drivers, and MP Navigator. loads of the other stuff on the canon installation disk just won't work with Vista. If you have Omnipage SE installed, you will have to get an email link from Canon, whose support website leaves a lot to be desired.
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=10444
Or go to canon europe whose site is not as good (weird to see Canon not going for the simple idea of global support)
I just bought a new full version of Omnipage, but it does annoy me that so soon after buying the MP780 I had to go to all that trouble.
