Gary Reeds solution above is good. Plus if you have a different monitor in the house, try that just to see if it's really just your monitor that isn't working. Check all power connections on both ends and at both sides of the transformer o the cord. You'd be amazed how many people don't think of checking that .Check the connections of your monitor too, of course. Does your tower make any sounds at all? Can you play a music CD just fine? (Do you have PC set to auto-play a music CD if you insert a CD?) If it's your power cord that's an easy to replace thing. Cost isn't low but... If it turns out not to be any of the above, call a few repair shops, tell them your problem, & ask if they can check the monitor, how much they charge, and also ask if they have used monitors for sale. Many do. They may even have you take PC in & check it with a different monitor, as the shop I used to use did. You'd also be amazed how many shops just try to sell you a new PC, no matter what's wrong with yours. Beware. :) I hope you find an easy solution.

Hi Natalie,
It sounds like the monitor has come to the end of its life cycle....You can verify that the monitor is bad by connecting it to another PC or Laptop using a VGA monitor cable, and seeing if it does the same thing.

My Dell 17 inch monitor keeps dying out. At first, it would flicker black and then go back to the original setting. Now, it flickers black and dies out -- the "on" button goes from green to...

You can verify that it is the inverter going out by turning the monitor on in a dark room and shining a light directly into the screen. If you cannot see anything, then something has happened to the power circuit. Perhaps the solder on the power port has gone bad, and needs to be redone, or part of the circuit board fried. The only way to figure this out is to open it up and take a look-see. If you don't wish to try this, you can always take it to a shop and have them look at it. Be careful opening it, the inverter is high voltage. Don't have any power going to the monitor if you do this.

Dell monitor is flickering

If you have another computer, try hooking to it and see if it flickers on it too.
If you hit Ctl-Alt-Delete and choose Task Manager, does the box flicker there?.
Adjust the monitor ratio in the Display Settings/Display/ Display Adapter Properties, Monitor Tab, see drop down (increase screen refresh ratio to higher number).

My Dell latitude Cpx laptop just does not power up, just flickers

I had the same problem on my CPx. It turned out to be a bad memory module. With bad (or no) RAM, nothing is going anywhere, so it immediately shuts down. New memory, no problems.
