Sounds to me, your belt is slipping. The motor tensions the belt with springs. The motor slides in grooves to keep the belt tensioned. These grooves get gooked up with dust, dirt, rust, slime, etc. Move the motor back and forth a few time to clean the grooves. Also spray some lubricant on it to help clean it and make it slide freely. Be sure both sides slide back and forth in their groove. After doing this, your belt should stay tensioned enough not to slip during the spin cycle. No tools needed and even the average moron could do it. Hope this helped.
My maytag will spinn*then stop&will not wash .
I had the same problem when the machine ran went into spin but did not. Get the Thrust Bearing Kit - Includes the Pulley, Bearing, Plastic Gear. Make sure you mark the pulley, gear and shaft when removing the older pullet, bearing and plastic gear. It is very important to keep the machine correctly timed. The kit is cheap $35, flip the machine on its back and remove the plastic cup in the center and then the c-clip and remove in order after marking everything with a black marker (line all up the same way) Good Luck

I made a mistake with the model #. It's actually MAV-8551.
My washer will agitate but was not spinning fuu speed on the spin cycle. it also will not drain. When I restared the cycle while empty, it began to smell like the belt was burning. Any help would be greatly appriciated...
The MAV-35 washer fills water properly but fails to go into spin cycle. The manual says there is a lid switch which turns off for safety. Where is the lid switch?
i bought my maytag atlantis mav8551aww july 2005.
For the past year my washer would occasionally make strange noises while washing, like loud clicking or grinding, but it would go away and then yesterday my washer was unbalanced from a heavy sweatshirt i was trying to wash and so i took the sweatshirt out. i went to do a new load and noticed the it wasnt spinning anymore after any of the rinse cyles, it agitates and doesnt spin. i tried this several times with just water in it. a couple times if it was full of water the tup would slowlllyyy spin while agitating as well, until the water drained out, once the water was gone, there would be no spinning action at all and it would be just agitating.
i called maytag and they said if the problem is from the transmisson or the drive motor that it would be covered under the 3 to 10 year warrenty...
otherwise i would have to pay for anything else that may be wrong..
what should i do? did you figure out what was causing the problem with your washer? thanks, angie
