DVD drives are generic. They do not require specific drivers. Fedora includes a DVD driver built-in. If the drive does not work, it is because of a hardware problem.

this is because Fedora and and other LINUX type of OS may not contain the drivers for your computer. You will need to download the driver from Fedora or Linux driver downloads and install them manually. This could be a pain.
yes it is possible, but why would you want to do that? which fedora is it? I have fedora v2. I only use xp so that I can use virtual pc 2004 so that i can use Back Track 2 and Fedora through xp, making sure that ALL of the holes are closed.
