This information does not mean anything to us if you didn't specify the model. In what temperature range a freezer works we knew thanks to the stars.
One star (-6 degrees centigrade) is perfect for making ice cubes and is sufficiently cold to keep food for three or four days.
** Two stars (-12 degrees centigrade) stores food for fifteen to twenty days.
*** Three stars (-18 degrees centigrade) will keep food safe for up to three months.
**** Four stars (below 18 degrees centigrade) means that the compartment provides the ideal conditions for freezing down fresh and pre-cooked foods.

Make sure the evaporator coils behind the rear cover inside the freezer are not iced up too much. This would indicate a defrost problem and will get worse.
If the compressor is still cycling off and on the cold control could be at fault.

is his garage as hot as yours?
Be sure the condenser coil is real clean. Best place to start. Freon levels, door seals are another place to look.
Let me know if I can help any further.

It seems that the temp more often goes up to 20-30's and that food is not as frozen when I check it. When temp goes up I check it for next couple of minutes and usually within 10 min the temp is back down...

This is normal. All commercfial freezers must defrost 3 to 5 times a day, or they will freeze over at the coil and then stop freezing. A timer in your freezer turns off the compressor and turns a heating element on for 10 to 15 minutes. During that time the coil heats and melts frost from the coil. Usually within 30 minutes the temperature will briefly rise to 20 t0 25 degrees F and then quickly drop down to 0 degrees F. The food rarely defrosts in this short period of time..

Freezer temperature does not get below 10 degrees

this is something you can do now. Check this 1st:
make sure that the air vents are not blocked and that you didnt overload the freezer with food

there can be other things that will not bring the temp. below 10 (that temp. is not too bad as long as it doesnt spoil the food)
here are the possiblities:
t'stat is set too low
t'stat is not responding to zero degrees (all that means is it is shuting off the compressor too soon to reach zero)
dirty condenser
r-134a freon is a tad low (only takes like 9 oz. if lose 1 or 2 that is enough to affect performance)
the freon is the last thing to check cuase you have to call someone to do that for you...

Well hope this was helpful... check the temp often watch to see if it gets above 20 degrees cause that will spoil you food..

Hi,Ihave had my electrolux fridge freezer for two years now and it is sited in my garage. When it gets really cold the freezer turns off defrosting everything, just found out if it drops below 10 degrees it...

Good day,
Not really. Domestic refrigerators are designed to operate in an environment where people live.
Most all manufacturers recommend that they not be placed in an area that goes below 55 degrees.
At any temperature below that it starts to degrade.
Cold enough and it will not work at all.
The reason is once the fresh food compartment reaches it's normal temperature of 33-37 degrees, it shuts the whole machine off.
That is by design, on any refrigerator like yours that has only one compressor and cooling fan motor.

As well, there are other issues. In that situation, the machine could well stay off 12 to even 24 hours.
The compressor has an oil sump in it, and the oil becomes very thick. When it finally tries to start, it creates a very stressful situation for the compressor, and could substantialy reduce it's life.

Have you checked to see if it has a proper refrigerant charge? Also could be a faulty thermostat .

In addition to the popping noise/coils are froze with orignal

turns out the coils were not defrosting or at best working intermittently. I defrosted the coils and ordered a defrost timer the old timer continued to pop from intermittently.I replaced the defrost timer
and it quit popping and noew the freezer works fine temps range between 9 degrees F and
14 degrees f.
