The only way to reset protect is to eliminate the problem which activated it. Problem may be insufficient line voltage or unit's output circuit. Have unit checked out by prof, tech

Protector light on sony str-de825. If everyone is having this problem and doing a hard shut down does not work, does no one ever take it to a professional? If so what did they fix on it?

In most cases the output is faulty as the MOSFET's shorts and so the drive board has to be changed. This is an expensive replacement and many when the estimation is done opt out. In some cases the protection is due to the fault of the protect circuit, failure of transistors or passive components.
Since most of the board are hard to access , the work estimation is high as boards are replaced.

Ca I hook up mt MP3 to mt STR DE825 receiver? If

yes either buy the sony dock for mp3's or go to Radio shack and buy the adapter that goes from a headphone jack to a red/white RCA plug get the gold tipped version and just use an open interface on the back phono, tape, whatever you have open.

When choosing a mode such as dvd or video the receiver dispays the word protector and then doesn't function at all. Why would that be?

This usually means a short in the wires, or you have very poor ventilation for your system. You dont normally see this unless the volume is extraordinarily loud or the unit is overheating. I hope this gives you a few things to look at or try.

Power button broken

sony are pretty rubbish at offering patent parts, my suggestion as poor as it is would be to approach sony for this part they will recommend a retail outlet that can supply it

A "protector" warning appears when turning on.

there could be a short in one of the connections or your power supply could be fried also ive seen some models with internal fuses that have blown

Right front speaker channel has a lower than usual output...

very basically try swapping over the speaker cables, if this doesnt work i suspect you are in need of a new ouput i.c. these can go if the speaker wires are touched together, unless there is a protection circuit.

Sony receiver str-da2000

Here is the link for the user manual if you need it; http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=STRDA2000ES®ion_id=1 Check page 54 for details of the error message - it should disappear if the speakers are connected properly and the unit is switched off and on. Check page 17 for speaker connection details, and ensure they are all correct. Check page 19 for details of the factory reset/memory clearing. Hopefully this will clear the error code and let you set the unit up. Hope this helps, please ask again if no luck :)
