Normally no drivers are needed for CD drives other than the ones built into Windows. It might be a dirty lens that is causing the trouble. When the tray opens on a laptop CD drive the lens is exposed and can get touched or exposed to dirt. Try gently cleaning it with a cotton swab to brush off the lens. If the problem continues, the laser may have worn out and is too weak to read now. You can find replacement drives online, or use a USB plug-in external drive.

My Pioneer DVR K17LA is Stuck in PIO mode by VISTA Home Premium

Change the IDE cable to a full UIDE cable and make sure you also have the latest motherboard chipset drivers for your model board.

They can usually be had from the boards website in the support section.

Is it compatable with my desktop pc?

Ok. Well basically CD, DVD and Hard Drives are all cross compatible platforms so you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. If your asking me to choose I would say that you remove the CD writer instead. But before you do this make sure you have enough extra sockets in your motherbaord to plug in your Pioneer DVR-1910LS 20x DVD±RW IDE Drive w/LightScribe if your CD Writer uses IDE interface your inluck coz you can use it in place of the Pioneer DVR-1910LS 20x DVD±RW IDE Drive w/LightScribe, but if it isn't make sure you have a spare IDE socket in your motherboard. Simply remove the side panel use a flashlight and see if there are vacant IDE sockets, it's usually long in black, white or blue color. see the picture below.

If its vacant follow the steps on the link below simply copy and paste the link on you browsers address bar.

Pioneer DVR-K17B

I have the same problem. Has anyone found a solution? I have an HP Notebook dv6700 with a Pioneer DVDRW [DVR-K17B ATA Device]. For the past few months I haven't been able to burn anything to disc. I can't find any firmware updates online. I'm not sure if I need to buy a new drive?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.
