Question about Sony VPL-ES3 Multimedia Projector
I had the same problem with a "Sony VPL-ES3" projector. The lamp cover light would flash and the projector wouldn't turn on.
I think its a problem with a filter cover. This fixed the problem for me:

I encountered the same problem and solved it following ranjum's solution: Tighten the screws inside the lamp cover at the project bottom.

Thanks podge for your solution. I had tried it before as suggested in VPL-ES3 reference book (trouble shooting section) but it has not worked for me. Instead I have foud that there is a lamp cover at the bottom of the projector for replacing fused lamp. This cover is tied to the bottom via a single screw. Just make sure that this screw is not loose. In my case, when I tightened it the indication has vanished.

I tried all the methods mention here by others and none of the advices worked in my case. In the end after trying +20 times, I decided to totally remove the lamp. Guess what! The lamp was clean but not the small window where light goes, it was covered in dust and there's a logic why the "lamp cover" pulsates, it was covered in dust and the sensors sense it that it was no clear light going into the projector from the lamp. Remove the 3 screws that keeps the lamp, remove it off and clean the place inside and especially the glass like a window inside the projector. That's it. It turned on in the first try
