SOURCE: Camera won't come on and lens doesn't retract
If you bought ni-cad batteries then you may have recharged them incorrectly and they do not have a good charge. Try fresh non-rechargable batteries.
If you bought ni-cads, buy nickel-hydride next time. They do not have a "memory" issue like Nicads.
I think the key here, though, is that it was dropped....

This kind of small digital camera, their lens structures are quite compact and complicated. The lens are covered one layer by one layer, even if you can reassemble the lens glass into a whole one lens, you still need some very professional instruments(To my knowledge, OLYMPUS company makes these series of instruments, cause I work ed for OLYMPUS Microscopes over 10 years in China ) to accurate and test the focus founction is working correctly or not. So, it is not that simple as to just reassembing the lens glass.

You may just have two bad batteries, or maybe your charger is bad.
You should have a DC power adapter with the camera, plug that in and see if the camera works longer with it.
You should also have an adapter to use CR02 batteries with the camera. You can buy three of the CR02 batteries at the drugstore (they are NOT rechargeable) and see if the camera works.
If any of these things work, you have bad batterie.
If they don't work, then there is likely some kind of short in the camera and you will need to send it to a service `center or your local camera shop. You might also just take it there and see if they have a known good D70 battery they could try for you.
SOURCE: My camera will just loose
Hello
The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the
probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.
Use
these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly ,
try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the
shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens ,
and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then
try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).
Try gently
pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may
cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another
way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and
then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to
not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and
down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the
camera is enough to get things going again.
Try hitting your
camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of
your hand.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to
replace the camera.
If it is still under warranty I would suggest
you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any
off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about
warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need
