I was given a Kenmore electric dryer (no book or anything with it). It does not get hot and now it won't shut of. I can run it and a normal large load will be dry in about 2 1/2 cycles. Yesterday it stopped shuting off. I had no idea until I discovered that it had run all night. I checked the vent/hose and it is clear all the way out of the house. I was thinking element but then wasn't sure when it started to stay on. The timer gets right to the end, just stays there and keeps running. Help! This was to replace a broken one!
Was the previos dryer taking a long time to dry??? Make sure a high velocity of air comes from the dryer with the vent unhooked there may be a internal restriction causing the long drying times, if there is no restriction then it is in the home vent line. To verify that it is a vent issue unhook the vent and do a load of clothes if it drys in 40-60min it is the vent.
If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.
