Use a long pry bar the fits the s[ring end and lever the end against a solid part of the base, then stretch the spring and let it slide into the rtaining slot. The long bar is the key since it will multiply your leverage by a huge factor.

Lawn mover starter rope replacement

most starters can be taken off the engine and replace the rope without completely tearing the whole unit apart. by that I mean you should not have to mess with the recoil spring unless it is broken. remove old rope from pulley, wind up the pulley and hold it so it wont unwind, replace new rope onto pulley and tie a good knot and melt the ends of the rope so it wont unravel, then slowly let the pulley retract the correct amount of rope. if the recoil spring has unsprung on you, it will take a little time and probably several tries to wind it back up and position it back in the starter. they like to unspring while doing this so take some time and an extra person to hold and assist might go a long ways. good luck. I have a 6.5 B&S engine on a RYOBI lawn mower That will not come up to mowing RPM. the mower does not have a throttle cable and the spring on the throttle appear to be intach. The engine starts real...

Normally when you move the throttle control on the handle, all that is happening is that governor spring tension is increasing or decreasing pull on the linkage /governor arm. With engine off and plug wire removed, look for a small shaft coming out of the engine with an arm attached. Attached to the small arm will be linkage to the throttle on carb.. So when you move the throttle on the carb with your finger the arm moves also. There should be spring connected to opposite side of governor arm connected to throttle control at the handle or small lever or metal tab. When you incease pull on the spring, the engine will speed-up. Adjust as needed. Good luck

The coil rope broke I would like to know how i can repair it. Generator 5500 watt champion.

If I understand correctly, you have a pull-start generator.

The rope to the pull-start broke.

This happened to us out on the job one day.

Our equipment might be different than yours. Our pull-start assembly is held with 4 bolts. Simply remover those bolts and lift off the cover ... carefully. The rope is attached to something I will call a pulley. The rope wraps around the pulley several times.

Do not lift out the pulley that the rope attaches to >> or the spring that re-winds the rope will come un-sprung (at least it did on our machine). If the spring comes unwound, then you got another job, and have to put the spring back also. Your machine might be different.

Keep pulley in place. Remove rope. Get another rope with same diameter and length and put it in.

How to get the tension off timing belt for replacement

Usually there is a idler that can be "unsprung" with a 1/2 drive ratcher, look for the square drive hole and turn in the direction that would relieve tension. there may also be a bolt that tensions the idler, loosen bolt. My Plymouth had a hydraulic (sort of) tensioner. It was a small piece that had a pin coming out the bottom that acted on an idler. You unbolt the piece and the tension would relax. To install, you had to chuck it in a vice and turn the vice slowly to push the pin in against a VERY heavy spring, then you put a small drill bit in a keeper hole to keep it retracted, bolt it in and pull the pin and it would expand putting tension on the idler.

Broke timing belt

now I read your problem, ok lets start with some critical points once you have removed the plasic or metal belt cover you really should set the upper and lower pullys to the pointing locaters but in a push you need to take a sraight edge and create a line across the pully and on the block use as small a permanent marker as you can a tip as the pullies must be spot on when belt is reinstalled. your tensioner is spring loaded and bolted in place when you remove the belt the pully will mostly go unsprung.
