Need dimensions build a box ported

that requires a formula,go to utube. you need to know what subs you have some require ported boxes and others require sealed boxes.

It's quite simple, positive from amp to positive of speaker, negative to negative. Make sure it's getting sub frequencies only and not full spectrum signal. Next (if everything checks out so far) see if the box dimensions and ports are correct for your sub. The sub and box combo will have lots of factors when considering tuning of the box and port size. You can find all sorts of info on the website for your sub. Qtas, max excursion etc etc etc. They might even list a few total volume and port dimension sizes for the sub you have and your taste in music. It's quite a science to get it right. More than buying a sub and buying/building a box to get great performance. When you get it right though... music to your ears (and chest)

I've had a look at the JLaudio website and they recommend 2 box designs, a ported and a sealed.
The sealed box needs a volume of:
2.125 ft3 or 60.2 litres.
To get this you would need to build the box to these dimensions:
22" x 16" x 14.75" or 559mm x 406mm x 375mm
The ported box needs a volume of:
3.50 ft3 or 99.1 litres.
To get this you would need to build the box to these dimensions:
24" x 19" x 18" or 610mm x 483mm x 457mm.
The port needs to be:
3.0" x 10.9" or 76mm x 277mm.
The enclosure recommendations listed above are external dimensions which assume the use of 3/4" (19mm) thick material. If you are using 5/8" (16mm) thick material, subtract 1/4" (6.5mm) from each dimension. Do not use any material with a thickness of less than 5/8" (16mm) as this may compromise the rigidity of the enclosure.
• All enclosure volumes listed above are net internal volumes! Driver displacement, port displacement and brace displacement must be added to obtain the final gross internal volume. All enclosure dimensions above have already taken this into acount.
• When using two subwoofers in a common enclosure simply double the required volume and, in the case of a ported enclosure, use two times the recommended port(s). Likewise, when using three subwoofers in a common enclosure simply triple the required volume and, in the case of a ported enclosure, use three times the recommended port(s).
• We recommend the use of this speaker in a bi-amplified system using high-quality satellite speakers and a high-quality amplifier. We do not recommend the use of this subwoofer with a passive crossover (coil), as this type of device will adversely affect performance.
As you can see it all depends on the space you have available, whilst the vented box will give you a more efficient bass responce especially with the low range frequencies.

Any type BOX will do...This ensures all the thump to be pushed forward to give all the sound from the speaker forward....enjoy. Alow enough room to get you hand in to wire easy and you should be good.

According to their specs, the L7's will work in a ported enclosure with as little as 3 CuFt and up to 6 CuFt. Usually with ported, bigger is better, so let's use the 5 CuFt per chamber. I'm assuming that you have room for a 10 CuFt box in the trunk? That's a big box? Almost half as big as a medium sized refrigerator. I hope you don't plan on putting your golf bags in there too. For 10.15 CuFt, a box will need to be 36X29X20, allowing 0.15 for the partition, sub, and port displacement.

To tune each chamber to 30Hz, you need a 4" diameter port 4.6" in length. Lots of custom builders use PVC and even ABS pipe for round ports. You can also buy "pretuned" ports from sites like www.partsexpress.com.

You'll have to measure the exact room that you have available and then adjust the dimensions accordingly.

For a ported enclosure with room for a port, you're going to need a box with about 3.0 CuFt internal volume. Using 3/4" material and outside dimensions, this translates into a box 25"(w)X18"(h)X15"(d) giving you 3.03 CuFt allowing a little volume for the sub and port displacement. For a tuned frequency of 38Hz, you'll need a rectangular port 2"X6" and 4.6" in length. A round or cylindrical port for the same tuning frequency would be 4" in diameter and 4.9" in length. Increasing the port length will lower the tuned frequency.

There's excellent volume and port calculators on The12v.com web site. I'd recommend that you browse some of the "box-building" information before you begin your build. The DIY Subwoofer site also has some great resources.

Keep in mind that a ported enclosure will tend to produce the loudest bass notes very close to the tuned frequency. So tune it higher or lower according to the music you will be playing.

The specific sub you are asking about would seem to be the TS-302F which is the only 12" 800W Pioneer I have located.

Directly from Pioneer's support knowledgebase:
TS-W302F = Ported: 2.5 Cu.Ft. F3 = 39HzPort: 4  x 6.5 tuned @ 37 Hz with 12 % port noise.

An enclosure 16X18X21, constructed from 3/4" MDF will yield 2.69 Cu.Ft., allowing .19 Cu.Ft. displacement for the sub and port.
There's an excellent "box calculator" located here on the12v.com web site. You can measure the space you have to put the box and fiddle with the dimensions to get close to your ideal volume. There are also calculators on the12v.com which will allow you to calculate a port length based on port diameter (or width/height), enclosure volume, and desired tuning frequency.

do you want the box ported or unported (holes or no holes) if you don't got a lot of room than you dont want a ported box. keep in mind the box has to have the correct amount of cubic air space or you could seize your sub... if you're building it make sure you use OSB board (oriented strand board) or MDF board(medium density fiber) your sub needs .7cubic feet of air space in an unported box
