Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Refrigerator/freezer is warm, fan is running.

The refrigerator is 2 1/2 years old out of warranty. The freezer kept thawing out the food, then refreezing. I have a loud buzzing noise happening every minute or so followed by a "click noise". The noise seems to be coming from the front bottom of the refrigerator. Yesterday, I came home and everything in the freezer had thawed out, ice turned to water and the refrigerator isn't cooling. Both frig & freezer are warm not cooling. It seems the fan in the freezer is running but nothing is happening. I had to throw out all the food. Sears can't get to my house to look at it until 10/12. Please help. I'm pretty handy for a women if you guide me through the check list. Thank you!

You're wonderful. I'll be back in touch in a few hours. Thank you. :)

I went to Sears and purchased the part. The parts department loaned me a dorm size frig to get me by until my service call. The manager was able to move my service call to Tuesday. I'll have the temporary part here just in case they don't have one. This works out great. Thanks for all your help

I've had my frig turned off for two days now. I decided to turn it back on since Sears will be here tomorrow to repair it. It seems the freezer is ice cold but the refrigarator is slowing cooling down. What would have caused the system to start up again? It doesn't seem to be making any strange noises like it was before it went out. It's producing ice cubed again and the whole nine yards. I still think the refrigerator should be checked out. I can't afford to keep losing all my food.

I woke up this morning to the buzzing, clicking noise once again. Thanks again for all your help. I'll let you know what Sears says about the problem today.

My compressor was ordered. Thank you once again for all your help.

The temperature of both freezer and fridge climb up and buzzing noise happening every minute or so and last about 7 seconds and followed by a "click noise".

when the temp reach 58 I decided to unplug the power and call service tech.

Hopefully the compressor needs warranty replacement.

The problem is the compressor isnt starting. The relay is probably ok. It should have 5yr warranty on the compressor. However if you purchase a Supco RC0810 start assist relay available at all appliance parts stores, it will start the compressor, however this is only a temp fix. But it should last till sears can put a new compressor in.

but start by pulling out the unit and remove the black lower metal cover, you dont have to remove the one with the water lines going into it.

Yes i have replaced probably close to 50 of the particular style compressor in your refrig for those exact symptoms occasionally it wont start when the unit cycles on (the buzzing you hear is the compressor trying to start but locked) the click is the protection switch shutting the compressor down for 2-5mins and then it will try again. When the compressor first starts to fail this buzzing wont be as loud and it usually starts after the 4 or 5th time.No food Lost. But as the compressor gets more worn out it gets louder the clicks become more frequent and it may not start for several hours and then eventually they dont start at all. Hope this helps

Yes and they frequently start after power is off for a day or so and freon pressures are asolutely equal and compressor has less resistance to start.

SOURCE: frig freezes the food and then thaws it out and

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

FREEZER NOT FREEZING AND F RIDGE FEELING WARM

Before you throw out this refrigerator, try a few simple tests.

First, open the freezer while the compressor is running and listen for the fan running. If it is not, this could be your problem. Replacement fans can be ordered from on-line parts stores, a local appliance repair shop, even ebay.

Second, try turning off the refrigerator and letting the coils in the freezer thaw completely. Of course, move your food to a safe place for a few hours while you thaw the freezer. If you really get ambitious, remove the rear panel from the freezer and look to see if the coils are frozen. If they are, thaw them and dry the freezer compartment completely. Reassemble the freezer and restart the refrigerator.

If the problem reoccurs, you may have a problem with your defrosting circuit.

The freezer is warming up

If you found something lodged in the door that may have kept it open for a while, i suspect frost formed on the coils behind the panel. Frost will not let air pass through the coils to the refrigerator side. This is one of the most common problems there is. If you look through the louvers on the rear panel that is for sure your problem. It most likely just needs thawed out. After it is thawed out, your normal defrosting routine will take over again and hopefully you will be trouble free again.

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
