Not sure what Cat switches you have, but the cajun switch must use the same trunking encapsulation.  Older catalyst switches use ISL trunking which only work with Cisco switches.  Make the port between the lucent and cisco dot1q encapsulation on the cisco trunk port.  Also turn on debugging on the cisco and see what messages are generated.

What is Lucent 7 Cabling?

Lucent 7 cabling *probably* refers to level 7 Lucent cable. It's old!! There are two issues in the question of, "What is Lucent 7 cable?" Here's the history: Lucent was a division spun off by AT&T back in the mid 1990's. Then Lucent actually spun off Avaya and sent their structured cabling business with it (they had named the cabling brand "Systimax" by that time. CommScope bought Avaya back in 2004, so Lucent's Systimax brand of cabling is 2 generations out dated. It's still probably okay, but not worth today's money for new Systimax products made by CommScope.

Now for the 7 issue: there was no talk of category 7 (cat 7) back when Lucent was making cable, but Anixter, a data cable distributor, rates cabling with their own proprietary system called "Levels". Therefore, Level 7 cabling is an Anixter measure and many people have bought from Anixter long enough that they ask for level 7 [brand whatever] cable.

Use it if it's low cost. Otherwise, don't let someone sell Lucent branded-cable as the same as today's cable. There were version upgrades since then. The print on the cable jacket will say 1071C or 2071C or something like that. Today, they are on version E, not C.

Hope it's kind of clear. My guess is the cable is about 10 years old, although some data folks are stuck in their ways and still refer to today's Systimax cable as Lucent cable.

Save config

After changing all the necessary parameters using the CLI, use the write command to save your system configuration. If you receive any error messages, your configuration has not been saved. You must correct the errors and re-issue the write command. Notification of write errors is presented in a two column display: ? The left column contains the parameter values that you set in this session and need to be changed. ? The right column contains the parameter values currently saved in the Cajun P116. Wait 15 seconds for confirmation of the write process. Then exit Privileged level by typing exit at the prompt. For example, CajunP116-priv# exit. The cursor changes to CajunP116> to indicate that you are in Normal level. Verify that all the parameters were accurately saved by using the show all or show all list command. The Cajun P116 is now ready for cabling and operation. You may exit your CLI session.
