Fridge keeps going into auto defrost when I don't see the need for it - maybe I am dumb but it seems to me itis happening way too often

Seems to me it is happening more often than that. The unit is less than two years old so it must have an electronic Dfrost Control rather than a timer.

  • CatRocket1 Oct 03, 2007

I notice it because everything melts and it is happening about once a week - sometimes more often. Also, it says in the manual that auto defrost should only be on for about 45 minutes - it sometimes lasts for hours.

After reading Bandygirl's problem (compressor going bad) I have a feeling that this is the case not auto-defrost. I guess I will have to call repair. Thanks for your help - I can't expect you to diagnose if I didn't explain the situation right. I will let you know what happens.

Yes, the fridge is just about 2 years and 1 month old so it should be under warranty. Thanks a bunch.

I am now convinced I have this problem with my refridge. The ice cream becomes soft. I uplug the power it seems to reset. Is there a way to reset this auto defrost function or adjust how often it comes on? Is this some kind of computer board problem?

I found the Adaptive Defrost Control board for the Maytag. Do the instructions first say to short the L1 and Test points with a screwdriver to try and reset the board?

All frost free models will defrost about every 8 hours of unit run time, possibly longer if epuipped with a Adaptive Defrost Control (electronic) where as older models use a mechanical timer
