You are quite right. The element will probably earth to the chassis and take out your mains power trip not to mention the glass fragments that may fall inside the oven.
Changing the element is straight forward. They come as a pair of glass tubes and after a bit of bending on the top of the case to release the clips fit easily.

I am afraid I cant solve your problem but I have the same model and am trying to find a user manual as I've forgotten how to adjust the clock. Any ideas? Thank you,

Short of buying the service manual, you can find helpful exploded view diagrams by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Replacing the magnetron will require the removal of a lot of screws. Keep track of where they all go.
