Yup, sounds like the remedy to me. Looks like about $140 switch unfortunately, but less than an hour to replace I would think. There is an adjustment on them that can be tried before spending $140, but don't get your hopes up that it will work. Always liked those Nissans, but when it comes to buying parts for them, that's the part that hurts. Same application on my 99 Caravan - part-$12.00. Didn't tell you that to rub it in, just as an example. Good Luck.

Probably if mechanically inclined at all. Stop at autozone, and ask them to print you out, step by step for replacing & adjusting switch. If no luck, you can always go to their site (autozone.com) and sign up free & get article yourself. Good Luck, let me know how it goes.

My car won't start and is stuck in park.

Will the starter motor crank? Do you have a shift interlock bypass button? If there is one and you have a console shifter, it should be close to the shifter, with foot on the brake, push the button down and shift into neutral, then see if it will start.
I can think of two possibilities, the shift interlock system, won't let you shift it w/o your foot on the brake and or the neutral switch/transmission range sensor, won't let you crank it unless the tranny is in park or neutral.
Don't replace anything unless your testing points in that direction.

Car won't shift from neutral to park

replacing transmission?????nonsence!!! i can tell this is an automatic trans setup, not standard. lets start here. put car in PARK and turn key on so the dash comes on. do not start car. step on the brake pedal several times slowly and listen for audible sound coming from the shifter area. you should hear clicking sound everytime yo uhit the brake. that is the shift lock solenoid releasing the mechanism indside of the shifter assembly so you can get the car out of park and into gear. you may have an issue with the shifter assembly it self. if no clicking sound is heard, it will need to be diagnosed fruther. the solenoid can not be purhcsed separatelly. shifter assembly only. start with the listening procedure and let me know.

Ok...the old keyswitch worked w/o key but it quit.(turn it to run but won't start. if it does start won't shut off.} replaced keyswitch still the same thing. it has new...

Hello, Check under the dash at the top of the Brake pedal lever. There should be a switch there and it is an Interlock switch. This switch can be hit by your feet and either knocked out of adjustment or broken. There is also another switch which ties into the system and keeps the car from starting unless it is in Park or Neutral.

When you put in the new Ignition switch, there are sometimes adjustment screws which are slotted and allow the Igntion switch to be mounted higher or lower with respect to the Keyrod or cable in the steering column.

Where you need to get power is the small (Tickler) wire on the starter solenoid. You can unplug it and test it for power when the keyswitch is turned to START.
The Interlock switches power the Tickler.

This is what you need to think about. The gearshift Interlock must be adjusted to make the Tickler work in Park or Neutral. The Brake pedal Interlock is suppose to prevent the Tickler from getting power unless your foot is on the brake. Sometimes your Brakelights will not work if the Brake Interlock is broken. Have a helper check them or Scotch-tape something across the rear window Brakelight so you can see it work from inside the car.

That is all I have for this problem.

2008 Saturn Vue Stuck In Park. The car starts fine however when you try to shift out of park the shifter is locked up and won't budge. You have to restart the car multiple times to get the shifter...

these have a safety system so the shifter won`t go into any gear unless the brake is pushed(indicating someone sitting in the drivers seat),if the brake lights aren`t working this indicates that the fuse that operates the shift lock solenoid and brake lights is not working and needs replacing.check the fuses and replace the fuse and things will probably return to normal.

There is a switch on the side of the trans called a neutral safety switch. It only allows starting in park or neutral. the switch probably needs replacing. The next time you have a problem starting, try shifting to neutral to see if it will start. To do so, leave the key in the on position, apply the e-brake and shift into neutral.

My car sometimes starts in park, then other times i have to put it in neutral.. now it won`t start in park or neutral.. please help

There is a problem in what is called a transmission range sensor. This sensor lets the ignition system know the vehicle is safe to start by being in Park or Neutral. Try replacing the sensor if that doesnt fix it check the wiring of the circuit.

I had a similar problem. My mech told me it was from putting it in park before it is completely stopped. Your vehicle is reacting like its in neutral or out of gear, since it will only start when it is in park, yet it will start with a push. If this is an automatic your speaking of this could be your problem. He said it is common in Jeeps. I have not replaced the part but I have not had any trouble starting as long as I make sure that when I park my wheels are straight & I take my foot completely off the brake after I put in in park, then shut it off. It starts every time.
