My old computer crash and had to buy a new one that came preloaded with vista. Is there a patch or updated driver so that I can make it work? Please help? Should I somehow go back to XP (I have the disk)?

Re: Umax Astra 2200 scanner needing to run in Vista
The Umax Support/Download (http://www.umax.com/download/index.jsp) do not have any patch/updated drivers for your scanner compatible with Vista.
If the only issue that you would downgrade your operating system back to XP is because of the canner, it may not be necessary. It is possible to dual both allowing you a choice of Vista or XP. This is better explained at (http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp).
This way you will retain the use of the new features of Vista in your new computer and yet when necessary make use of your previous devices that will only run in XP.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn out or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

Al, this is a question that can only be answered by Umax themselves. Perhaps you can go to the website and find a link for contacting them directly. Unfortunately you may need someone to translate the site as most of it seems to be in German (even when clicking to view in English)
how about the cheaper route buy a new scanner they are dirt cheap now time to upgade dont you think so! manufactures left everyone in the dust when windows vista came out most end of life products not compatible with vista unluss they are popular bramd like hp!
