XBOX 360 keeps resetting itself

Hi Guys, Had my 360 for about 18months an had no problems. Was playing Bioshock yesterday and it reset itself and started up again. I carried on an played again and it kept happening. I put Halo 3 in and it stopped, so went back to Bioshock and carried on playing for hours. Today i went to play again and now it resets itself after about every 5-10 seconds. Any ideas?

My X-Box 360 only restarts when i am playing CoD5 online. It will randomly restart once and then after i reload and start a game, it will restart again. It usually will only restart twice.

Hey there guys i know this reset thing is sucky i havent resolved this but i have a weird solution i myself moded my xbox after the warrenty was long gone ive had my same xbox for almost 5 yeaars im always opening it checking it out and like a pc when i work on it i ground myself or where dish gloves (it reduce chance of burning the chips on the console ) anyway i went to my friends house and my console fell down a flight of stairs ever since it sometimes shows the 3RRoD or resets i noticed the hdd makes a noise when i pull it out (lose connecter)then and the fans got slower i guess the lose connecter sometimes make it reset from the pump and the fans slower make it over heat so i got a mini house fan, placed my xbox flat(not standing ) and it lined up right on the right side as a result it hardly ever resets and keeps it cooler i havent opened my xbox since it fell im going 2 ill keep you guys posted

There is a Microsoft KB article on this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911152 I would try that and see if that helps. Also try removing and reapplying the faceplate. Did you recently move/bump your 360? If so, I could see the KB article applying to your situation. BTW, what makes me think its user error is the fact that you specify that important 5-10 second window. If a button or something is pressed down permanently, it has a tendacy to be like clock-work, while hardware errors/failures with the 360 seem to be more towards random restarts and failures. If all else fails, just call MS and see what they can do. You may want to repost with exact details of what is going on, your Xbox's condition (dusty?), and what changed to make the event begin.

If you gave those couple of things in the KB article a run, then you probably have some strange hardware failure going on. I've not seen anything like that before. How far does it get in the boot? To the game menu, or not even past the Xbox 360 splash? Can you access the Xbox 360 menu?

Some games do more noise then others?

Not really but some games like g.o.w demand more from the graphics processor i'd figure you should stop playing it because it might be damaging your 360
