USB connection fails

Have been using my Visioneer OneTourch 9000 scanner on a 2.8ghz Pentium4 machine under Win XP with no problems. Bought a new Dell 1.8 ghz DuoCore under Win XP and cannot get the OneTouch to work. I have used my original driver disk to install, completely uninstalled and used the latest drivers (for the 9000) from Visioneer: it works one time and then fails. It will not stay installed. Is there problems with older scanner/optics with the new DuoCore technology? I have followed the install instructions to the tee and the same problem occurs: install, will work once, then says "unable to connect to scanner". Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your tips. However, I gave each of your suggestions a try and everything checked out. I moved the cable to the front USB socket, rebooted, and it loaded perfectly. Ran the scanner several times, but when I returned 24 hours - monitor off - it once again was unable to connect. As to installing from original disk, same problem but WindowsXP sends a crytic message saying an older file is being installed that will possibly affect the way the system operates. By the way, I do have SP2 installed. This is an interesting one, eh? Thanks

Hi, There shouldn't be any problem really. A couple of things you can try: 1. Verify that you have SP2 in the new Dell; 2. Verify that you have USB 2.0; 3. Verify that all your USB are enabled in your CMOS/BIOS; 4. Un-check "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" in your USB Power Management; 5. Try other USB ports (front/rear). Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turns up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

Can you also try reverting back to the "original driver disk " after uninstalling the new drivers?

    Agree with you, interesting...and challenging.

If you have done the "uncheck - Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" in your USB Power Management (Device Manager)", there shouldn't be any reason for the scanner to go offline since it is still physically tied up via the USB.....not unless the the scanner itself has a power management feature that switches itself off after sometime.

hi there,, I'm having an same problem on win7 with this scanner.. actually now I have even bigger problem, or lets say different problem.. Scanner managed to work only once,, now after installing/reinstalling new/old drivers, PC wont even recognize this scanner and install drivers for (the way it ussually do when new hardware is attached), I can only hear connecting sound and that's all.. in OneTouch programe when I click "Connect..." after "Finding Scanner" it says "Unable to Connect with Scanner"..
Don't know what to do.. because it' worked perfectly on XP few years ago,, even worked under win7 like a year ago (I remember I had similiar issues with finding scanner) but now it's been out of use for a year or so,, and no luck..
Can there bi something broken in scanner, what are the parts that can "pass" with some time? I believe this scanner is old like 5 or 6 years by now.. I lamp is working and motor seems to move when I plug power cable,, but PC wont recognize it :(..

Will this Visioneer 4400 scanner driver work on Windows 7?

Currently there is no driver available for win 7.But one of my friends had the same issue and he
fixed it by asking windows to automatically find the driver from internet and it worked for him.So I suggest you try the same, this is what you need to do

1) First go to control panel, then open Program and Features.
2) Uninstall any driver for the Visioneer 4400 scanner that you have previously installed and reboot the computer,if there is no driver installed then skip this step.
3) Make sure your scanner is connected to the computer, now right click on "My Computer" and click "Manage"
4) Now choose "Device Manager" from the left panel and it should list all the devices on your computer on the right side.
5) Now select the option "Scan for Hardware changes" from "Action" menu on the same window, you can also do this by right clicking on any of the device name in the list (ex,drivers, keyboard) and choose "Scan for Hardware Changes"
6)A new category named "Imaging Devices" should appear on the device list now and when you expand it by clicking on the arrow, it should show your scanner as "42 Bit USB Scanner"
7)Now right click on "42 Bit USB Scanner" and select "Update Driver Software".
8) Now choose the first option,"Scan Automatically for updated driver Software" and Windows
should automatically find a working driver and install it.Now your scanner should work.

Let me know if it helped, good luck!

How can i install visioneer one touch 8900 usb scanner in Windos 7?

The 9420 visioneer Scanner driver will run the 8900 scanner.
first,go to visioneer and download the .MSI file for the 9420. Run it. The driver files will be found in directory: C:\Visioneer\OneTouch 4.0\9420, find the 8900 drivers.they will be in c:\ Windows\twain_32\vizscan8xxx. open the file and look for rtscan.dll Rename it old rtscan.dll.if you can't find them, either use Device manager to show you where they are. or you can reinstall the Driver(Xp\2000\Me\Win 89 from Visioneer site. Rename the rtscan.dll file which will be in the twain_32 folder(see above).
copy all the files in 9420 Driver file to the c:\Windows\twain_32\vizcsan8xxx folder. turn your scanner should find the drivers and install the scanner.

I have a Visioneer 4400 usb scanner and the disc for it still, but how do I get it to work with my Dell computer which has windows xp?

Make sure you turn off all antivirus / firewall program off that might be blocking the driver to load/ install. once the scanner is detected, it will prompt you to provide the driver. You may then install other visioneer scanner softwares that are bundles with your system to use with the scanner. Make sure you are installing the right driver for your operating System, in your case XP 32bit or 64 bit

I just gotten a new computer with the Windows Vista. I want to install my Visioneer Scanner One touch 9020 USB. Is there a driver I can download to install my scanner to my new computer.

I went here They don't have any drivers for Vista you can try talking to customer service but you might have to buy a new Scanner! Sorry :(

My Visioneer P7300 Scanner seems incompatibile with WIN XP

Hi Bob,

It's quite possible. Does the scanner connect to the computer via a USB or parallel (old style printer) port?

If the answer is USB, then I believe you might find what you need HERE.

My only reservation is the "P" in the model name you gave. I didn't find any Visioneer scanners w/ a "P" in the model name. However, this one lists drivers going all the way back to Windows 98SE. So, this may very well be the ticket.

Take a look at the picture of the scanner you see at the link I gave you. If it looks right, go ahead and download the manual and take a look at that. If, after viewing the manual, you're convinced it is for your scanner, then go ahead and download the drivers for it and install them on your XP system.

As always, make sure you create a System Restore point b4 making changes to your system like installing or uninstalling software or drivers.

Visioneer 8100 connected via USB cable.

I had the same problem. After I downloaded the driver I disconnected the scanner.
Then restarted the PC and after up, plugged in the scanner to my USB, Windows found it and installed it. Now the system recognizes the scanner. However, I am still
looking for a user manual to know how to use the scanner. I performed a scan ok to the desktop, but cannot find the document on the system. ed
