FIRST, try inserting a standard lens cleaner, this is a disc with a fine brush on the play surface, as it attempts to read it will clean any lint from the lens. then try a regular disc. if this does not take care of the issue, it is beyond the scope of this venue and needs professional service. (if you are skilled with dangerous, and DEADLY voltages that are inside consumer devices, you can pull the cover and check that all the plugs and connectors are firmly seated AFTER disconnecting the unit from the WALL/ MAINS power. If this doesn't work the old adage of NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE comes into play, and replacement may be cheaper than repair. IF you do not do any recording with it, a straight DVD player will be cheaper. This may also be a good time to look into a net connected Blu-Ray to take advantage of streaming media on your TV.
