Radio displays kill and only receives does not transmit beeps when mike is keyed

  • Richard Pryor

It is programmed incorrectly. You need to use the factory software and turn off all functions that are part of the kill/stun/suspend features. Turn off DTMF tone function too. You do not need any of these and having them enabled allows someone to send a tone to kill your radio operation. You need to download from radio, correct the errors then re upload with functions all off.

Be sure to use the factory software, CHIRP or RT systems sometimes will not fully display all the features you need to disable.

MT1500 shows full battery but beep's like it's dead

Hello
This double beep tone you are hearing is a acknowledgment tone indicating that the radio is in the transmitting mode. On the Motorola MT1500 radio you can adjust the tone volume separate from the reception volume by simply holding down the volume control and setting the tone volume level.
I hope this helps.

Will not get good recepiton.

Hi stormnorm157,

Much of the time this is caused by problems in the antenna system. Make sure there are no shorted or open connections in the coax or PL-259 connectors. Use your radio's meter or better still, a Power/SWR meter to check the SWR of the antenna. Try to get that as close as possible to a 1:1 ratio on the meter. A shorted or open antenna can keep the audio receive on your radio at very low levels. Plus, this will harm your transmitter if you continue keying the mike.

Another problem can be in the radio itself. This will be noticed if you can transmit, but have no "Modulation". Modulation can be described as the voice heard above the "Carrier" (your transmitted signal). Every CBer knows about the term, Modulation. The Truckers will definitely inform you about your modulation quality...lol. This problem can be due to a defective AMC (Automatic Modulation Control) stage in the receiver circuit. And, there will be no modulation upon transmit.

One other thing could be causing this lack of receive. Defective wiring or switching in the microphone can result in no audio. Or, in many radios, a missing mike will not allow receive, because the mike connection completes the RX (Receive) circuit.

Solutions:
1. Check the antenna system, and rule that out or fix.
2. Check mike, or substitute another one.
3. Using meter, and or another radio for listening on same channel, check power and receive.
4. You can probably fix 1 and 2 yourself, or with a friend.
5. AMC problem in radio (as described above) will require professional service.

Let me know how this turns out, and inform me if I can offer any more help. Thanks.

Regards, Bill

Radio will "receive" but not "transmit". Radio, antennas, and wiring are all less than two years old. Should I try a new mike?

Firts you have to check for carrier. For this you need an swr meter.2) Check continuity between the pl259 tip and antenna.3) Check for modulation (voice) if all of the above are OK. 4) Check if your display changes to transmit when you press the mike. IF all fails, then try another mike.

Mic hum

Yes, the wiring is different. Reverse the wires on pins 1 & 2, then reverse the wires on pins 3 & 4.

The wiring for you radio's mike is:

1- Audio
2-Ground (Shield)
3-Receive
4-Transmit

Depending on the vintage of your mike, the colors Uniden uses for these functions are white or yellow for audio, red is transmit & black is receive.

Muting the sound

Hi,

The sound produced by a Motorola radio when the mike is keyed refers to the "Transmitting Call Tone" which is another feature other than the "Interference Eliminator" or the "Roger Beep" feature.

On most Motorola GMRS/FRS TalkAbout radios, setting the "Call Tone" to 0 disables the feature. This is done with the radio ON by pressing on the "Menu" button 3 times which will result in the display showing the current Call Tone setting (flashing) and the letters CA; pressing on the <- or +> buttons will change selection (you will also hear the different Tones), select 0 (it may be up to 5 or 10 depending on the version). Press on the "Menu" or "PTT" button to set, save and exit.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
